CT235
How long of a trailer is needed for a CT235 with FEL? I got someone approach me for a 16 feet with deck width of 82" and load capacity is 5,820 lbs., two axles. Will it be enough or I should look for at least 18 feet? What feature should I look for if it fits..... :confused3: And I don't need a CDL to pull it, right?
Thanks for any input.

Not sure of the size comparison, but I have a 16' for my JD 790 (27 HP) w/loader & 5' finish mower. Just fits, with the bucket down. ~~ grnspot110

How long is the CT235 and what does it weigh. When you have those answerer's you will know what the minimum requirements will be.

I have a 20' trailer for my ct230 and with the bucket down where the bottom of the bucket sits flat, I am around probably 14-15'. You could tip the bucket where the tip sits on the trailer and the bucket is verticle and save a little room but if you plan on getting a 3 point mower or other attachment, you are probably going to be pushing your 16' length depening on your attachment.

In looking at my owners manual, the length of your tractor is 107.8" from the front to the back of the rear tires. The FEL w/ bucket is 58" from the edge of the bucket to the center of the front tire. What it doesn't tell me is the distance from the front tire to the front of the machine so I can't give you an overall length.

The ct 230 weighs 3056 lbs. I do not see where it says what the loader weighs.

I have a ct 230 w/fel. I haul it on a 18ft P&J trailer. With the bushhog hooked up the tailwheel hangs off. Not a big deal, everything else fits good. A 16ft will work but I wouldn't reccommend anything smaller than 18ft.

I have an 18' trailer and need every inch when a Bushog is hooked on. A 16' is ok if it is just tractor and loader.

Another thing to add when looking at a trailer is to make sure you have trailer brakes on both axles and that they work well. Depening on what the weight is of the trailer you end up with and what kind of truck you have to pull it, you are going to need all the help you can get when it comes to stopping.

Thanks for the input. I don't have my tractor yet... it's coming this Wednesday, and a friend of a friend ask me of the trailer if I want it. It will be for the tractor with just the fel and/or box blade.

That looks like a very nice trailer. Is that a 7500 lb total weight (including trailer) capacity unit? If so, you'd be pushing the limits with a loader, boxblade and other cargo. You'd be OK, but starting to get close. I'd want at least 18' long, rated at 10,000 lbs. But, what I see will work and probably be legal. But, just barely.

Tractor and loader ~3800 lbs
Boxblade ~500 lbs
chains, binders, fuel ~250 lbs
Loaded tires?? ~350 lbs
brush guard?? ~ 50 lbs
Tools & Misc?? ~50 lbs
rake or scraper blade? ~400 lbs

A longer trailer will also help get a better weight distribution between tongue and axles. Don't buy too small and regret it.

Used trailers of sufficient size that aren't worn out are pretty rare, at least in these parts. I looked long and hard. Ended up buying a new one from down in the VA/TN border. From my search, It seemed that the best deals were coming out of TN/Miss/Kentucky area. I bought from a dealer who was given the trailer on "consignment" to haul home a big load of used equipment he bought while down south. That one trip was the only use of the trailer before I bought it and it had never been titled.

Don't mean to poo-poo a good deal. If the 16' is a good price, it'll do you for a while, until something better comes along. You can probably get what you paid for it on re-sale, if you take care of it and is truly a good deal.

If you're buying it, I'd get the trailer withoutthe dovetail and nothing less than an 18'.

Don't forgoe the dovetail. You need to lessen the ramp angle to keep from dragging when loading, and it really helps. Only forgoe it if you have another solution, like extra long ramps or tilt.
