Transaxle toast?

Wow, I have an X300 but not an R model. Quite a difference in those two models. I can change my drive belt in about 30 minutes and all I have to do is drop the deck. I drop my K46 tranny every 200 hours and change the fluid with 5/50 synthetic by just turning it upside down over a bucket. Changing the fluid takes me about 3 hours only cause I let it drain in the bucket for an hour. I had an issue once where it wouldn’t hardly move but it was a stripped splined sheave on the top of the tranny which is aluminum. That was an easy fix. Geez what a poor design of the X300R, no wonder they quit making it.

It all stems from the tube that runs down the middle to route the grass from deck to rear. You should see the routing of the drive belt, an absolute night mare. The rear steel plate for grass bag as well as body has to come off. Also springs and bracket for mower deck to be able to route the drive belt.

Geez, what a nightmare for ya. I personally don’t see much use in a bagger. I just chew it all up and it decomposes fast anyway. I think the clippings are good for the soil. Plus my yard ain’t the ninth hole at Augusta National either, lol.

Update.

The tranny is definitely toast. Got new belt on and ran fine across level ground. Tried the hill and went a couple feet and stopped along with some noises from tranny. Took back to garage and was going to turkey baseter all oil I could out of tank and add heavier oil. Was sucking out major dirt particles and even grass clippings.

Found a K46BD at Mulligans for $690.00. Anybody have experience with them?

Not even sure why you tried all that....knowing that the cap was off for an indefinite amount of time. Remove the trans, open it up and rebuild it with a readily available kit, and re-install and assess whether or not to keep it. Or you could just sell it for scrap...

Had the belt in my hand, didn't cost me anything but a little time to try.

Well, that's disheartening. It seems like it was something you would've fixed regardless. When I buy from someone new, I use a credit card that gives me purchase protection. They have no complaints on BBB and look to have a store front, mostly OK Google reviews.

Well, I ordered the transaxle from the link I posted. Payed with PayPal who has backed me up any time I needed them. I like the tractor and am going to keep it

I see that Deere still makes that tractor. Shows a list of 6K. Sounds like you made a sound decision. Keep us in the loop.
