I bought a used John Deere 110 at a lowes, and it won't move. It fires up and the pto/mower works, but it wont move in forward or reverse. It's like the transmission won't engage the drive train. I checked out the manual, and it indicates that a bypass valve switch on the back can be the source of the problem - I guess that the bypass valve, when opened, allows the tractor to be pushed by hand. However on the back of the tractor there is no bypass valve lever - just a hole where (I suspect) the thing used to be. I have a feeling that the lowes repair guy removed the lever when he was repairing the brakes, or something like that - that's about all I can think of. Or maybe the delivery guys did something when they rolled it off the truck.
So my question is, has anybody had an issue like this before, and does anyone have any recommendations about how to fix it? I figure if I pull the back off the mower I might be able to toggle the lever housing in some way, to close off the valve.
No huge rush on this because its finally raining in CA and I won't be mowing any time soon. Thanks very much.
