Transporting a bush hog

I wouldn't worry about damaging the bush hog when dragging it off, just protect the trailer from damage. If you have a flat bed trailer as in a car-hauler without any rails, simple job to use your FEL and put it on. Use some protective skid lumber to protect the trailer when dragging it off. You aren't going to hurt the bush hog. Just remove the extended portion of the drive shaft, tie up the other section and drag it off.

I agree a rollback makes sense, still working on how to get it on and off without tearing up the bush hog

My neighbor and I use a rollback frequently to move stuff. I suspect you are over thinking this as suggested previously. Since a rollback bed can tilt, telescope or extend and has a winch it will make loading fairly easy. Using some wood skids strapped in place is a good idea too. I would think you will have to load this side ways on the roll back to keep from being too wide. So you are not going to be able to hook to it with a tractor hitch at the destination. You can use the tractor at the destination to anchor to. Most experienced wrecker operators can handle this job easily, let them do their job.
