Transporting brush-hog

The good news is that nothing significant is going to happen if you run it fully raised or with the tail wheel touching. We got accelerated wear on one, but that was over a long time. Our Woods pull type has foam filled airplane tires. The dealer said he pretty much always sells pull type with this tire due to road wear and laminated tires on 3PH models as they are carried with tires not touching.

Knowledgeable people can disagree.

imho.. still.. it's made to roll.. grease it. when it wers.. it's made to repalce...

most of my hogs that are 20ys old or younger have slight wear inthe bushing.. but are serviceable.

I've had to replace a couple busings in 30-40yr old mowers.

I figure they don't owe me anything at that point :) thus I run em on the road and save the tractor safety valve.. it
s harder to get to and costs more to replace!

From my Land Pride Manual:

Transporting
! CAUTION

IMPORTANT: Always disengage the tractor's PTO before raising the cutter to transport position.

When traveling on public roads at night or during the day, use accessory lights and devices for adequate warning to
operators of other vehicles. Comply with all federal, state and local laws.

1. Make sure driveline does not contact tractor or cutter when raising cutter to the transport position.
2. Reduce tractor ground speed when turning and leave enough clearance so cutter does not contact obstacles such as buildings, trees or fences.
3. Limit transport speed to 20 mph. Transport only with a farm tractor of sufficient size and horse power.
4. When traveling on roadways, transport in such a way that faster moving vehicles may pass you safely.
5. Shift tractor to a lower gear when traveling over rough or hilly terrain.

maybee landpride aren't built strong enough to take road use ;)

I do recall a thread about some construction strength issues about land pride mowers.

anyone is free to do what they want. all my mowers with wheels.. use them.. :)

way easier to repalce a bushing on a tail wheel vs repalcing a lift piston oring or safety valve IMHO.. :)

on the flip side I mow with some larger heavier mowers like 10 and 15' mowers too.. do have some 5's and a very old and hd 6 that had a bushing repalced.. as well as an old 5 with a bushing replaced. I suspect both will run like that till i'm old enough to notcare.. :)

i know due tot he size of the 10' mower, I don't like carrying it raised.. even with a ballasted 95hp tractor...

I have a Bush Hog 3209 cutter that weigh around 2500 lbs. I run that down the road raised all the way (3pt hitch and hydraulic top link retracted) at 22 mph with no issues.

you have a large fel as front ballast. that makes a huge difference on the teeter totter effect.

I drove my tractor 5 miles yesterday and picked up a brush hog and carried it home. It actually drove better because of the loader on the way back. Control of the side sway is probably more important
