I purchased a ford 8n but it is in wyoming and I live in bend oregon I just wanted a old tractor to play with but now I find the shipping costs are way high Twice what I paid for tractor I don't know what to do can it be moved on a car trailer any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks John

Go to Uship.com, follow the instructions (they're easy) to list your load and input the weight (probably 2500-3000 lb for your 8N), type of load (agriculture vehicle or similar) and start and destination zip codes. You'll get a list of recent jobs closely similar to yours with the freight costs. Then make your decision.

If this is just a bare 8N I agree...The one I had posessed had a front loader, filled tires and various impliments...I hauled that to the new house and it was probably as heavy as my 32' ft travel trailer. Can't quantify, just "pull feel".

What type of tow vehicle and trailer do you have? The 8n is fairly lite tractor at about 3k lbs so a 1/2 ton can do it easily.
no need for a truck to pull 3000 pounds, i pull 4k tractors behind my Volvo. Just make sure your brakes are working, and that you have the correct tongue weight, about 5% of the load. With my 3011 on the trailer, (weighing just a bit more than an 8N) its an easy ride.

it's not just the tractor weight.. it's also the trailer. typical trailer is a 16' tandem.. at about 2000#

making that a 5k# load.. meaning class III hitch or better.

most 'cars' here have a class I or II hitch only.

My 2.5 ton, 6 by 12 foot tandem weighs 430kg, on the papers. I guess it depends on whats commonly available.

over here, a 7' x 16' tandem wood deck 'car hauler' is a more or less standard for the people with tractors of 35hp and lower. mine papers out to 1740# WITHOUT ramps. and I have a set of 3 heavy ramps for it that weasilyl wight 100-120# each.

Hmm i'm wrong... the legal load capacity is 1930kg, which means 570kg empty weight...
You can buy a 430kg 2 ton trailer, but those are disposable junk, made of 2mm pressed steel... Mine has a truss frame.
In Europe the 2 ton tandem deck-over, is the most popular light commercial trailer. extending trailer length, quickly adds weight because a longer bed needs stronger frame members too... Though i sometimes wish i had more length to balance out the load better, a shorter trailer takes less storage room, and i'm not dragging dead weight along when just getting a few 2 by 4's...
What i want to do this winter, is put it on smaller 13" tires and drop the deck 6 inches, so i can use shorter ramps, and it has less wind resistance with a tractor on it. It makes a noticable difference in fuel consumption.
