Here are some photos of some hogs that a high school friend of mine trapped off of our place. Baited out with corn one day, next morning, trap full of hog.

Great pictures and congrats on catching those hogs.

I haven't tried trapping them yet, but it's on my list. Here's some pics of a few hogs from last year. The feeder is about 200 yards out my back door.

yum-yum, my husband made wild pig for dinner this week and it was delicious. we really should try baiting and trapping, they are so tasty.
It was very tender and not at all gamey tasting, it was in fact delicious.

Thanks for the pics, I sure want to go hog hunting one of these days!

Nasty critters. The second best place to see them is in a trap. The BEST place is on the grille.

Do these pigs taste like pork from the store?

Is there a special season for hunting them or is it open season?

Thanks,
Chris

I trap them in S/W Tx. They are excellent table fare, Taste just like store bought pork but leaner. We use portable traps we can move around, but they don't like to be caged. Ugly little critters----and they bite too

Chris, I think most states are like Texas in that they consider the feral hogs to be varmints, so there are no restrictions, season, etc. I've not personally eaten any so I can't say how different they are from regular pork, but I do know that some of the high priced "gourmet" restaurants are now serving it.

Speaking of hogs in TX; I'm headed to SW TX to a place call Uvalde, there we are going to a ranch to hunt hogs in Feb. Anyone know anything about the area?

Are you going to Uvalde to hunt feral hogs or to hunt javelina, which is a native animal?

Now that sounds like a good time. Any bag limits? How much does something like that cost? How did you get hooked up with the ranch?

Take some heavy leggings or brush chaps and boots. In February you won't need them for rattlesnakes but will need them for "stickers" (cactus, etc). Good luck.

I've heard of them in New England but not verified. Does anyone know if they are indeed around up here in a colder climate or is this just a tall tale?

I don't know there range, but cold and snow isn't a limiting factor for hogs. Rmember that the most sought after variety of wild hog is the Russian Boar. They are native to most parts of Russia, Eastern Europe and all around the Med. Heat is a bigger problem for them than cold as they can't cool off and will die very quickly from overheating. This is also why they are so active at night in my area. Luckily it's cooling off into the 30's and 40's at night and we're starting to see them again in the mornings.

The only reason they wouldn't be in the New England area yet is there's too much civilization in there way. If they can find a way around all the big cities and freeways, they will work there way up there in time.

Thanks Eddie, I'd be interested to see one but, I'd rather it weren't around here.

Don't some people keep hogs as pets in their house? I wonder if they could be litter box trained?
