What year was your F250 ? Remember in 2005 they changed the V10... From 2 valves to 3, boosted torque up to around 465 if I remember correctly. Gas mileage was certainly terrible, empty around 12 mpg, towing 10k was around 9. With my F450 6.0 PSD (keep in mind the 4.88 gears with the heavy GVW package) I get 15 empty, and around 10.5-11 mpg towing 10k.

I'm very pleased with the mileage considering this is a 9300lb truck, I just don't like dumping money into an engine, but luckily the rest of the truck is tough and reliable.

I'm sure the F150 EcoBoost is a good truck, but it's not built for the heavy duty work that I would require of it. There are times when I load my flatbed with 5000lbs and then pull 10k lbs of trailer weight (or more).

TSO -- my F-250 as I mentioned was 15 years old. It was a 2000 model. It weighed 6500lbs. and was 4WD. The new F-150 is certainly not built for the heavier work you probably have to do. The V-10 got 424ft-lb torque and the little V-6 gets 420 ft-lbs and 65 more hp. I do pull a 3000lb 21 ft trailer and a 9000lb tractor on it (& sometimes the 1600lb bush hog too but usually not.) My towing is not frequent so I'm not having to do this daily or anything like that. Here's a pict of both trucks at time of trade-in. 20150616_093519.jpg Also the load I tow. P1170197.jpg

Those are both great looking trucks. That 2000 always to be in great shape, what did they give you for it?

It had 72,000 mi on it and I got 13% off sticker for the new truck and $7K for the old truck. They posted a price on it the next morning of $14,775 and sold it 4 days later for $12K.

As I mentioned in post 57 above, I just changed my engine oil for the second time, once at 50 and now at 100 hours. I put Rotella T6 syth in the engine. I'm switching all my motors to synth.

I contemplated using synth hydro fluid but I couldn't justify the costs. I suspect the syth stuff would make the loader work smoother, quicker, in real cold weather, but that little, few minute time saving convenience comes at a price.

I used the TSC Traveler Premium Fluid at the 100 hr mark and found it works better than the stuff that came in it. It helps me shift the 3 speed axle MUCH easier than the old original stuff that came in it new.

My manual says do the first hydro change at 100 hours. I think 50 hours is a little premature on yours. Engine yes, hydro no....... unless your manual specifically says 50 hours, of course.
