Treadmills

Bird,
I bought a Nordic Trac model several years ago. I don't know if they even make them now, but it was a good one. It lasted seven or eight years of fairly regular use, mostly by my wife. A circuit board of some sort went bottoms up in it about two years ago. I can order the part on line for about $150, but I haven't repaired it yet. It was about a $400 model that I think I bought from Sears. We had planned to sell this house last year and moved the Treadmill to my barn the next county over to make the house more presentable. Now that we've decided to stay here, I guess I'll fix it. I personally like treadmills because here its just too hot most of the time to get out in the evenings and the mosquitoes are rough. I have a Nordic Trac Ski machine that I liked, but a bad back stopped me from using it. For some reason it really aggravated the muscles in my lower back. I was in the 159th session of the FBI NA. I enjoyed the board room a lot more than the gym.

Bird,

When my wife was diagnosed with COPD her pulmonologist recommended she go to pulmonary rehabilitation. They let spouses exercise too for a fee of $17/month. They have treadmills, different types of bikes, arm mills, weights, etc. Normally we go in twice a week. I started the program too almost a year ago. I stopped jogging when we moved to the country 15 years - - I figured I was getting plenty of exercise just keeping this place up, but I can tell that my wind and endurance are much improved. And, the program has done wonders for my wife. Smoking 45+ years didn稚 help her at all & she値l never 喪ecover? but she痴 much more capable now than before she started.

Have you checked into your local YMCA? I have not looked into it myself, but I知 told they have a program that allows senior citizens to exercise for no charge.

Ditto on the Nordic Track, ours likely has 10,000 miles on it and still going strong. I paid about $700 for it new in 2001 with all the programmable features which I really like.

So I can't decide whether to buy new or used, nor which brand and/or model.

What do you recommend?

Bird,
Around here there are a few used exercise equipment stores. You can try out the different models there, if you have one near you. :)

Andy, we have had this conversation before, but wlihile I still can't believe all of the similarities in our lives. We also had a Pro-Form treadmill that we had gotten at Sears. Ours was probably about 6 years old. I used it once in awhile, but Monica used it a lot. Ours was also destroyed in our house fire. The one thing I didn't like about it was the belt length. I'm short and don't have real long legs, but if I tried to speed it up to much I could feel why feet hitting the back of the belt. I was always afraid I was going to go off the back.:p

Is Ohio a parallel universe to Pa?

I don't know, but it has been pretty scary. Almost feel like we could switch lives and we wouldn't know the difference.

I liked the board room best myself, Logan. Would you believe I've forgotten the number of the session I attended, and when we were burning a bunch of old records and stuff before we moved back to town, one box with all the certificates, commendations, and such accidentally went into the fire. But I went the end of March to mid-June, 1986.

Hakim, you're right about a bunch of treadmills on craigslist in this area, but I had no idea which one(s) (brand, model, etc.) would be worth what the sellers are asking. But with the help I'm getting here, I'll learn.:) In looking at new stuff on the Internet, I'm finding that the bigger, heavier, and presumably better quality treadmills also have a lot of features for which I have no use; things such as TV, music, fans, etc. The cheap ones have all the "features" I think I'd want, but don't have the longer and wider tracks and I'm afraid of their quality and durability

MossRoad, I don't know of any used exercise equipment stores in the area, but now that you mention it, there's almost bound to be. I'll be looking to see if I can find any.

I still don't know what I'm going to do, but whatever it is will be on or after the end of this month, since we'll soon be going on a little trip for a family reunion.

Bird, if it wasn't 500 miles to your place, I have one I'd gladly give you. I suggest you buy a cheap one off of craig'slist and see if it's something that you will do on a regular basis. Then buy a better one if you want. Most of these used ones are like new, many buy them and never use them. At the mall in Topeka, they let senior folks use the air conditioned and heated space for walking, probably several miles of space by the time you make the rounds and there are stairs if you want that type of exersize. It would cost the fuel to get back and forth to the mall but might be an option.;)

Are you out of your mind, How dare you make a judgment about any member like that based on a picture. How could that be anything but insulting & certainly uncalled for. Why did bother saying anything at all if that was all you had to say
