I think it is amazing that both GM and Chrysler got bailed out by the government, allowed to start over and still can't make as much money as Ford. That says a lot.

Food already out paces 'inflation'.. Thats why they took it out the figures along with fuel.

The way I remember it, Ford heard the governments offer and said 'No thank you'.. The others had no choice.

They had already borrowed billions.

No, not at that point. They both waited too long.

I don't think Ford was any better run than the other two. They just brought in a new CEO that had already helped Boeing survive near bankruptcy.

That was a smart move.

I don't think so. What was milk per hundred weight (paid to the farmer) in 1985 vs a gallon of diesel? How about now? A gallon of milk in the store in 1985 was around 2.29 to 2.49? A gallon of diesel was 1.35? Why did diesel triple in price and milk not?

Government price controls on bulk milk. Milk sold for $12.73/cwt in 1985 and goes for $19.47/cwt this year (per Dairy Markets Data & Graphs )

There is no real competition to the price of diesel.
