Treating diesel in north Texas winters

nuffdog I have seen -23 here in west Texas and
you could't get a plumber for 3 weeks they were
so backlogged with all the frozen water pipes in
Big Spring, TX. We had an ice storm I was 60
miles east of El Paso, TX heading to Big Spring
and it only took me 6 hours and 47 minutes to
make the trip. You don't cover much ground at
15 to 20 mph.

Average temp in Wisconsin for December is
24 degrees high and a 7 for a low so it don't
go below zero in Wisconsin????????????

Average is kinda wacky as south Texas is a lot
warmer as north Texas might have a temp of
40 degrees and south Texas could be 80 degrees
so the average is 60 degrees makes cents???

I use highway fuel it's already treated. I can't find Ag diesel anywhere near me. My dealer told me the highway stuff has fewer particulates in it than ag diesel and I'm only running the one machine so it's all good.

I also use Power Service bottle on those extremely cold winter months here in Va. my little Volkeswagen TDI would sometimes act up if it was extremely cold without an additive.

I was looking for the coldest city listed, which was Amarillo, a panhandle city, and the average January cold temp was 23F degrees. I could care less how cold you think TX is or how warm you think WI is 🤪 because it doesn't matter.

Off road and highway fuel is the same stuff except one has red dye. Yes, I confirmed by calling fuel companies. On road may be better because it will have a quicker turn-around. In my case this year though, the red off road tested better in the freezer than the on road.

Your dealer is blowing smoke up something.

Anyone that treats their fuel for "average" temperatures deserves what happens if they need it in a cold snap.
I've had gelling waxing issues a couple of times it is not something you wish to go through.
If you have work to get done and people or animals counting on you to get your work done with diesel powered equipment
you had better prep for it.

Saw a first at my fuel stop yesterday. They have a banner hanging that says "#1 Winter Blended Diesel Fuel". I'll call them today and ask the percentage of blend. They've not done this in the past that I'm aware of. I think they'll cause customers to have problems by not self treating their own fuel.

I never trust a vendor to Winterize my fuel. Never.

THAT is exactly why I am testing and blending fuel in Oct/Nov for January temps. and that is why companies order their own blend for winter months. If my fuel is clear in the freezer I am pretty sure I won't have an issue for as cold as I normally plow snow. Filling stations are blending or treating for the weather 1 week in advance not for 6 weeks so what fuel is in your tractor right NOW?

My vendor says they are 70% #2, 30% #1. I'll treat as if it's straight #2.
