Tree Claims Hunter

A guy I played football with fell from a tree stand and onto the thicker roots at the base. He broke his back and hes pretty much hobbled up for life.

They're becoming more and more popular as a way to get up and see more, while reducing the scent traces on the ground. If I ever build one it will have a roof and probably a small stove to perk coffee and cook lunch, as well as a small table to play solitaire on.

This starting to sound like a pretty cool tree house. :D

Gravity didn't claim the hunter, it was the conversion of potential energy to kinetic energy at the point of impact.

And it was the exponent of gravity that caused the impact...

There is at least one county in NC that requires the hunter to be off the ground if hunting with a centerfire rifle.

Later,
Dan

Oka-ay, but I'm not sure how accurate I can be if jumping into the air at the same time. ;)

No bolt cutters involved. Those little Master locks succumb easily to a good cold chisel and 2 lb hammer. You don't need to cut it; just break the shackle out of the lock.

Best way in this day and age is a battery powered angle grinder.
Those little grinders have rendered padlocks useless!

I've lived here in Northern Indiana for 60 years. I can't honestly say I've ever met anyone the doesn't hunt deer from a tree stand of some sort. When we bought our property around 1989 there were a couple dilapidated wooden stands on several trees. I removed them. The next deer season, several more appeared. I took them apart and left notes on the trees to remind them of the no hunting/no trespassing signs on the property. Several seasons after that I found nice new metal stands and took them to the county police station. I left notes on the trees as to where they could be found. Finally, the people that owned the property next to us asked if we'd let them hunt on our property, and I said sure. Gave them written permission to give to the conservation officers if questioned, etc... my neighbor has 3-4 stands on our place, and 3-4 more on his place. One on his place is pretty much a yard barn on stilts for his father to stay warm in. The ones on our place are nice metal stands with two legs and a ladder. He keeps an eye on our place and has asked several people to leave over the years. And in return, every so often he gives us some tasty venison. :licking:

THAT is the way it SHOULD be done!

I have none of the above though, including bolt cutters. What I do have is a BFH, so everything looks like a nail to me. :D
