I wish to fabricate a tree planting auger which attaches to my Ford 1210 in the position of a belly-mount mower. This is for inter-planting in rows of Christmas trees. Before I reinvent the wheel, I am interested in any thoughts or recommendations from this audience. I call your attention to the Auger Transporter by CTE CTE Mfg. - About | Facebook. This is moved around like a wheelbarrow, but I want my tractor to do all the work. I don't want a 3PH unit, because I want the perfect visibility of a hole being dug two ft to the right of my gas pedal
I envision a 6-8" auger driven by a hydraulic motor. I propose the structure to hang from the rear mounts of the FEL, with a possible stabilizer to the trailer hitch. In transport mode the auger will be positioned behind the front tiren front of the brake pedals. At the point of planting, the auger will move horizontally ~2 ft . The rotating auger will be lowered via hydraulic piston to desired hole depth (~10") , then raised, retracted to transport position, and onward to the next hole. This is stony soil so down pressure will be needed.
I am confident that the auxiliary hydraulics which operate the FEL will operate the up/down and left/right of this creation, but I have no experience with hydraulic motors. The up/down will need to operate at the same time as the auger motor, so I may need a PTO powered pump. ANY thoughts?
I picture the auger with attached motor and raise/lower piston mounted on the end of a 3 x 3 beam which moves left and right inside the next larger size square beam. The larger beam contains the l/r cylinder, and is the structure which actually attaches to the underside of the tractor (FEL mounts)
Has anybody seen anything like this, or have any ideas or cautions? Thanks in advance.
