tree removal

Here is why he can't "cut the trees down" They are probably his trees, but local government has dictated that trees cannot be cut down, This is the way it is here in Branson. I don't live in the city, and I pulled over a bunch of cedars last weekend. The reason I pulled them Vs sawed them is because once pulled over you can just drag them off and not have to mess with the stump. They are done for once and for all. Now once the trees are on the ground, as in blown over from windstorm and too wet ground, he can dispose of the trees any way he wants. You just cannot cut them.
Betcha that's it.

KOua,

You got it. It is a very controlled area and very restrictive on tree removal. When there down, you can clean them up. Some lots have been cleared long ago and for some reason, thats OK. But if you have trees, you have to leave homes for all the spotted owls. Not wanting to clear cut, but just open things up for some sun shine. many folks just kill the trees and wait for them to fall over. I have cut major roots and refilled the holes, takes afew years but it works. I just wanted to mix it up. Over the month, we have had lots of wind damage..

Go as high as you can with the attachment point, the wind has also been known to break the tops out of trees.

I wasn't too clear here, I don't mean to tie off to the very tippy top of the tree but as high as you can with a ladder or other normal means. Half way would be an excellent goal. Breaking off is no big deal, as it won't have any effect on the next step which is tie off onto a lower part of the tree.

Why do people always assume somebody is stealing? Violating stupid land use laws is much better. I can show you thread after thread on this site where somebidy is trying to drain or fill a wetland which is no different than this tree rule.

ust a start .I am with you all the way. Government stupidity is rampant. EPA has gone nuts and I don't think anyone there knows their face from the other end.

In my area there is a cactus that should be eradicated, it is on the protected list. And that is just the beginning.:confused::(

Are you in the city limits of Bloomington? Didn't know you couldn't just cut down a tree in your yard. I'm out in country about 8 miles from the mall, I just fire up saw and go to town. Matter of fact dropped 20" poplar last week. Considering what mother nature has been doing around here this week I'd consider it a blessing NOT to have trees knocked down. If its a danger to your house if it blew over, seems to me you should be able "cut" it down. But then again you do live in the tree hugger capital of the mid-west

Ah, trying to get around bureaucratic nonsense! That, I can support. We have cities around here that won't allow you to remove trees and in '83 we had a big wind and ice storm combo and a lot of big, 24-30"+ trees came down on houses. OK to kill someone when a tree falls on a house from a storm, just don't cut down a danger tree ahead of time, trees are holy.

So I suggest poison. Probably Crossbow in diesel sprayed around the base of the tree up to a height of about 12" should do it. I once smeared grease around the base of a cherry tree to stop ants from climbing it. Wasn't a very wide band, but it killed the tree.

Frankly, trying to pull the trees down I think not a good idea. There could be tree hugger witnesses come along you don't expect. There's the safety issue. And the difficulty.

I had a small birch clump, maybe 8" diameter and a couple of them broke off from the snow load. I dug around them, cutting off roots down to a foot or more. Tried to cut under them as well. Hooked a cable around them as high as I could reach and to my JD 770, which was on my concrete driveway. Didn't budge them. My wife watched closely as I made a running start. The trees didn't wiggle. A guy logging nearby with an excavator came over and popped them right out. But that was a big machine.

Years back I tried to remove a hazel. Just a shrub, maybe 8 ft. tall. Again, dug around it, cut the roots I could reach and tried to pull it with my JD 420. Soaked the area. No go. A lot more digging and I finally got it.

I'm a tree lover, not a hugger. But I don't see how they can stop you from cutting a tree down that is within falling distance to your house.

I would just say there was a big wind and the tree was looking like it could fall, so I cut it down. End of storey, I'm protecting my family.

I wouldn't care if it had fledgling bald eagles in it. OK that's a little harsh, I'd wait from them to fly off.

You are right about the Saguaro, everything about it is "Holy". But it is not troublesome. The real nasty one is the "Cholla". It flat takes over large areas so thick you can not walk through them. Called the "Jumping Cactus" because the lightest touch and it has you. There are several different varieties of them, all are bad. Often see cattle with cholla hanging off them, horses the same. My dog that actually knows they are a problem, now and then gets stuck.

Yep they are "Protected", just great, I love the logic of this crap. :confused2:

There are no tree bylaws where I live now, but at my last house I cut down a 110ft tall fir the day before the bylaw came into effect, for no other reason that if I didn't, I would never be able to remove it unless diseased. Applications for removing a tree cost $100 from the city and then you have to hire an arborist for a report to the city before they will consider it. The fine for un-lawfull removal is $1000.00. In a neighboring city with similar laws, one homeowner was charged a $40,000 fine for removing several large trees.
