Hi,

Anyone use a tree spade on a compact tractor.
How good do they work.

Or is it better to use a skid steer.

Thanks

I suppose that depends on the size of the tree spade.

Got to remember most skidsteers have about a 2-3000 lift capacity
Most class 2 CUTS only lift about 1800lbs at the arms. the loader capacities are even smaller ~800lbs give or take.

a tree spade capable of moving a 2-3" diam tree would need a 45hp or more tractor to run.

That's what I was thinking, my tractor wouldn't be big enough.
It's about same size as yours.

Will have to find someone with a skid steer.
Have some pines that are 2-4"

Thanks for the reply.

I use tree spades on skid steer or loader machines. You need some type of downforce to help hold the tree spade down. Most skid steers
will use a stabilizer which is a hyd cylinder and a metal base to transfer some weight to the front attachment. The stabilizer also keeps the
skid steer from rising up when the blades are going in. I have seen tree spades on large tractors but the spade was mounted to a tower system
which was mounted to the 3 point hitch which was fastened rigid to the frame of the tractor.
