Hello, I have to remove multiple christmas tree stumps. I know that there is a attachment for tractors with a FEL that is made in Canada that would be very useful. I currently do not have a FEL but did see somewhere that someone had what I thought was a homemade tree stump remover that would attach to their 3ph. It had 4-6 tines 9 (or points) that would go under the stup and work it up. Any ideas? I can't afford an FEL and don't want to chance pulling the stumps out with my tractor and a chain or metal wire. Somehow the thought of the chain or wire breaking under the strain and hitting me square in the head doesn't appeal to me. I would greatly appreciate any advise.

Do you have a box blade? The family that I purchased our house from raised Christmas trees, sold them before we purchased the house and left many stumps cut off at ground level. I used the box blade by lowering 2 of the 5 tines (ones in the middle), then driving over the stumps, dropping the box blade as I approached, this would cut the roots. If the stump didn't come up, I approached them at right angle from the originial pass and up they came. The real work was picking us the pieces that were left.

Check out <A target="_blank" HREF=http://www.tractorbynet.com/cgi-bin/compact/showflat.pl?Cat=&Board=implement&Number=138660&page=5&view=collapsed&sb=5&o=0&fpart=>THIS</A> thread, it will give you an idea of how to build one. You can also do a search for treepuller in the attachments forum.

THANKS GUYS!!!! I never thought of a box blade. I do not have one but could purchase one. I have never used one and was not aware that the tines could move and adjust independantly!! I could always use it for other things so it makes the purchase worthwhile!! Excellent!!!! Thank you for the link to the other tree stump removers that were home made. That was the link that I originally saw. Any brand preference on box blades????? Thank again.

I use my Woods 6500 BH which is attached to my B7500 to pop stumps, works quite well actually. Sometimes if it is on a slope, I use a chain with 3/8 inch links to pull them out. That too works quite well. Never had it snap or fly wildly. Just give the tractor enough power to pull the stump loose. Thank god for HST!! I think it gives one much more control on how much juice yer givin' the tractor.
