Trenching with a Kioti

L4060hstc. 40hp & 6 speed Kubota HST+ tranny is barely slow enough. A geared machine wouldn't be slow enough & a normal HST may not be as well.

Bradco 612 trencher I got off Craigslist, some propane company stopped using it for installs. 3' by 6" blade. Due to angles it would dig a trench a little under 30" if I recall.

I've done a several hundred yards on a couple projects with it. Projects are done & I haven't used it in a few years so I need to take it to an auction or sell it. I also have an in with an ISP plowing fiber in all over the area if I need to do any more trenching. It got the job done ok. Not that much more problematic than any other trencher, but a 3pt on a tractor isn't as well setup as a real trencher. A fraction of the price though.

A friend has a Kioti with FEL and 3Pt; I'm guessing it's a CX but not sure.

This is for a Ground Source Heat pump which would need 3 ft+ depth.

Would he be better off to rent a 3pt hitch trencher, or a skidsteer attachment for the FEL?
The Kioti CX2510 has a 11.3 GPM pump.

I'd think a tractor with hydrostatic drive would have sufficient GPM, but I'm no expert.
I will reference Bradco Trenchers as they have the widest offering in the market with skidsteer and 3pt trenchers. They also have been making tractor mount trenchers for several decades. I have never seen a 3pt trencher for rent so I am not going to go into details on them, unless Op plans on buying a unit.
The smallest ss trencher 625 is 14-22 GPM and is available with up to a 48" boom.
The next smallest is the 640 and it is 14-24 GPM with up to a 60

The tubing for the lines on a Kioti CX2510 is most likely 3/8" and therefor they cannot flow the full 11.3 GPM, Also the tractor might not have enough fluid to handle the continuous hydraulic load. If the 3rd function line uses 3/8" body fittings were the loader attaches to the tractor like many in that class do they are only good for 8 GPM.

Your likely to discover that one rents 3pt trenchers. Your friend is short on hydraulic flow so using the tractor with a skidsteer trencher to install the lines is not feasible. I hope that the data is useful in your decision process.

Also out of curiosity is he in WA or WV? It might make a difference in alternative recommendations.

Be sure you verify the depth you need first.

The Kioti CX2510 has a 11.3 GPM pump.
Those 11.3 GPM is the flow of both pumps (steering + implement pump) which are different circuits and I don't know why they list it like that in the spec sheet.

The CX2510 has 6.5 CC pump for the steering and a 10 CC pump for the implement circuit (loader, remotes and 3 pt). At the rated 2600RPM, the 10 CC pump puts out about 6.8 GPM, even less than that if we account that most gear pumps are about 90% efficient.

Yep, your right only 6.86 gpm. Had to look at the owners manual. Thanks for the correction!

This makes the decision easier for OP. The tractor cannot do it with a skidsteer trencher.

CUTs top out at 8-10 of hydraulic flow. Usually less, especially with hydraulic losses. At 2,500psi that's only 18hp as a best case scenario, probably more towards 10, maybe 15hp of usable power. That's pretty low to cut a trench 3' deep & 6" wide. The smaller push ones are usually 18", maybe 2' and only 3-4" wide.

It has been a while, but I researched and calculated the horsepower of my Kubota L4060 hydraulic capability at 14hp. That was assuming 100% availability of the implement pump available with no losses.
