No, Rat, you had nothing to do with this at all. It seems that Carver had a comment on his web site that some other tractor was 3 times the tractor that the BX is (I don't have the exact details and they aren't relevant to my opinion in this matter anyway).

But apparently that comment touched a raw nerve in TresCrows, so he's posted a number of messages with comments such as "old man Carver", "old-fart-itous", "Carver's mouth is writing checks his butt cannot cash", etc. And then posts a message that he likes "facts, not opinion." I guess he thinks it's OK for him to express his low "opinion" of someone he doesn't even know, but he doesn't want to hear anyone else's opinions.

This forum has consisted of friendly people who visit, help each other, and I think respect each other. So it's my "opinion" that TresCrow's comments about Steve were uncalled for and discourteous, and if he thinks he has a low opinion of Steve, you can guess what my opinion is of him.

And normally, I would never post anything talking down to, or bad about, anyone on a public forum, but his repeated harping on this did irk me, so I sent a courteous private message, and of course, he never answered or wavered from what he'd been saying.

Bird,
Well stated, I think you speak for most of us here! Again thanks for your keen insight.

Mr. Bird, as you can see from various post not just on this thread a few of us BX owners who came to this site for help and support have felt there is a condescending attitude to say the least towards the BX as if we really do not belong here. I feel the information posted at the site in question was part of the cause. I also never recieved your private post so I could not possibly respond. I respect your opinion and as I have said before I have a different sense of humor from most people and in addition to that have grown weary of so much unsubstantiated opinion on the web at every turn--the info age is the opinion age it seems. You are also correct in that Carver (tractor?) is a quality dealer who cares about trying to match people up with the right tractor. In fact, I previewed an excellent letter from Carver wherein their web site and evaluation of the BX and some other tractors has been updated/modified/changed. I am now in full agreement or as close as any two people could be on a subject with what Steve has to say on his new page which I will leave up to him to describe/introduce. I think from what I read it is accurate/informative/even a bit funny and appears to be void of "formulas" for the most part. He is obviously a fine tractor expert and I believe he has responded to my bulldogish attack of "tractor formulas" in a fine manner from which both you and I could take a lesson. My salute and hats off to a responsive dealer and a formulaless (is that a word?) tractor world. Additionally, my apologies for roughing him up so, given the source I should never have been so suspect of his intentions but I was, I have encountered a lot of cranks on the net but I am now certain that I can insure that Carver tractor is not one of them and I would certainly consider purchasing a machine from them someday and especially if I lived in NC. My last post on this subject unless something useful comes along for BX'ers or related. I would have mailed you private Bird but I wanted others to know that Carver has addresed this issue and handled it in such a positive, upbeat, responsible manner. Good day to all. J

Del. . . .
A little more info on that TBHST option,

can we retrofit it to fit older tractors. . . . .

does it come with a steering option, (could I sit on my front porch and send the bota out to get the newspaper).

Does it come in blue or green yet?

Do I need to use synthetic in the TBHST, or should I stick to pet based lube?

If I may, I believe we all know the formula for calculating a tractors TRUE worth. Simplified it is. . . .

((G-14/A*K)+W+(T-2W)) X (JP/(H-4T))-(W^(C+L1-L2)) X (?(20LOG(M/(S+P)))+B X 30E)

Where:
A = Average age of operators
B = Model number of tractor (leave off any alpha)
C = color of tractor (orange=100/green=50/blue=10/other=0)
D = dimension of smallest pass
E = engine displacement in cubic inches
F = traction ratio of tires X number of driven wheels
G = transmission Hydro = 1, gear = 2
H = horsepower (pto+engine+drawbar+# of Coors in toolbox)
J = Relative density of land mass (see USGS bulletin G34.6)
L1 = latitude of operation divided by altitude factor
L2 = longitude of operation divided by altitude factor
M = percent of time to be used mowing
P = political party affil. (R=1, D=-1, other=0)
S = percent of time to be used removing snow
T = percent of time just screwing around (avoiding the wife)
W = weight of tractor compensated for center of gravity

The only problem here (and it throws the whole formula out the window) is I can't remember weather this is the formula for tractors using Amsoil or Rotella?!?

Thank you Bird,

I've been here for a while, but I did NOT understand the exchange that was going on. Seemed that Steve asked a simple question, and awaaay we went! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif...

I must not have been paying attention elsewhere... /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Skent, I tried your formula and it works!!!!! I calculate my BX is 2,234,567.31629021% more productive than my wheelbarrow and EXACTY to the the nearest 1/1000th 1012.101X (a) Murray LT or factoring a drag coefcient for high speed mowing 21,678.9085 times more productive than my Lawnboy. Dividing for tidal effects and gravitational flux it appears the BX is 0.890345 the tractor a 7500 is and only about 15% as tractive as my Toyota 4X4. This of course is assuming the kanoodle valve is fully functional and the recipricator is operating within it's design parameters and a compression facilatator leak down test has been performed by a shade tree mechanic within the last 60 calender days. Jeeeezzzzz. I slip away for a while and things seem to have gotten a bit testy over the big tractor little tractor debate. Glad to see saner / cooler heads are starting to prevail.

It's funny, we all have our machines for different reasons and do different stuff with them. Seems to me like we ought to just accept the fact that some tractors are bigger than others, some people own the bigger ones and some the smaller ones, and for the most part the machines serve us all pretty well. Nothing wrong with laying down YOUR hard earned dollars for a bigger one or for a smaller one. And, one man's (or woman's) opinion is probably as good as the next when it's YOUR money that's being spent. In the end, it's YOUR opinion that counts. I personally happen to appreciate the diverse opinions that this forum fosters. Keeps things kind of interesting. As for tractors, I happen to have a smaller one and it does just fine for me (maybe that applies to more than just the tractor!)

Anyway, my point is (I did start with one), Steve Carver is a valuable asset to a lot of us in a lot of different ways, but you have to bear in mind he's a Kubota tractor dealer trying to sell Kubota tractors. I'd expect him to have an opinion about the various Kubota models, their capabilities, and suitablility for certain jobs. And, I'd expect whoever reads his opinions to realize they're exactly that.....his opinion. Heck, I've even heard of folks going to a number of doctors for multiple opinions.

Hey, I saw a remote controlled lawn mower on TV the other day, can our Compacts be far behind?

   / TresCrows #20
del, Why Not? We seem to have a lot of 'Remote Controlled Opinions' around here lately, so I would expect someone is working on the tractor issue as we read! :eek:)
Don't know what either one is good for though, unless you've got an ice-chest full of beer 'n a shady spot to sit! ;o)
NOTE: Just for you testy minded folk, this is all a tongue in cheek excercise done with a smile!
