Tresspassers and Cable Gates.

Just popped out to the property today to make sure the house stakes, markers and such were ok as we draw closer to house building. I did notice that someone left me an empty bottle of Smirnoff Vodka. Surveyed what I have cut out for me shortly and figured out that a huge pine tree must come down to put in the driveway. Not happy about it, but I can't leave it for fear it will cause trouble later.

I see what everyone was posting and I feel that respect is the issue. Kerr has great neighbors and is one himself and they seem to respect each others land etc. Some of us are lucky in that repsect and some aren't. But I think Kerr is looking back to a simpler time when people just seemed a little less problematic. Dont know, just a guess. Nothing wrong with what he said or others have said. The great thing about this forum is we can all agree to disagree from time to time. But in the end we will help each other out just like a good friend and neighbor.

Ranchman,
Having read this forum several times, I can only say that my interpretation of what Kerr was suggesting, was just a suggestion. That's all. I didn't take it as him telling you how to run your affairs. I did, however, find the money and land ownership comments hard to understand and could use some clarification from him on that one.

I agree with your stance completely. Tresspassing is a crime and should be delt with. That is the way I was raised. However, I have found that I can be flexible to some tresspassers. Kids with chainsaws nailing trail marker signs to my trees get no mercy. 80 year old guys that have been hunting there since before I was born get a break, with the stipulation that they hunt responsibly and keep an eye on the place. It works for me. It might work for you. It might not.

Good luck to you and yours.

I'm sorry Terry, I thought it was quite obvious. Falconry, the "Sport of Kings", is considered by many to be a cruel bloodthirsty activity right up there with cock fighting and bull and bear matchups. So it seems odd to me that someone whose hobby was falconry should give evidence of being quite sensitive.

I don't think it appropriate for me to comment on your personal attack other than to disagree in the extreme but should you have a point to make concerning my argument, its logic, any assumptions made, facts you feel misrepresented, or clarifications you require to continue a civil discourse, please do not hesitate to proceed but please, if you wish to continue, can we restrict ourselves to a discussion of the issue and not resort to ad hominems.

MossRoad-
Thanks for the comment. I had re-read the entire thread several times myself, trying to see just how much I may have "read" into Kerr's post in question and to double-check the "civility" of my responses. Unfortunately that's the problem with a forum with everybody typing - it can be REALLY hard to put the context around the meaning of the statements without seeing faces and being able to ask for clarification in a quick-turnaround timeframe.

Even after my "knee jerk" reaction has worn-off to a degree, I still seem to read the original post in a certain way - perhaps some of the "intensity" of perspective that I first "saw" in Kerr's original message has seemed to dim upon reflection, but it still seems to advocate things I don't agree with. (I hope Kerr responds to my last message directed to him, as hopefully it will help clear up the muddy water in the interpretation area.)

Regarding your place, I wish you the best in keeping the "unwanted" off your property. (May the severity and frequency of incidents be small!)

Regarding the 80 year old fellow who's a champ & ya wanna let on since he's been around for years... I think that's a nice thing to do, and I might do the same. (WHAT! /w3tcompact/icons/shocked.gif Have I changed my stance completely??? /w3tcompact/icons/tongue.gif - no, let me explain.../w3tcompact/icons/hmm.gif)

See, from my point of view, if you have told the 80 year old that it's OK to come & hunt if he "...hunt(s) responsibly and keep(s) an eye on the place", well, then he is no longer a trespasser - he's a guest. That's a good & generous thing to do (if you so choose) in my eyes. I might very well do the same thing. Where I would have the problem is if the fellow just "assumed" that it was OK and did it without getting permission from me first. Again, that's just my POV. I can't be sure, but I suspect a lot of other folks who posted here might feel the same way. (uh oh- I'm assuming again!!! /w3tcompact/icons/eyes.gif)

Egon, I usually really appreciate your mind and its output but I don't understand everything I think I know about where you are coming from in this instance.

Do you eat meat?
Is dead dead?
What is the difference in getting dead?
How many different varieties of carnivourous beings are there?
Couldn't help myself!!!!

Do you eat meat? Du-UH, My ancestors didn't spend millions of years fighting and clawing there way to the top of the foodchain so I could graze.

Is dead dead? Were you by any chance a big fan of the Clinton legal discourse obfuscation methodology?

What is the difference in getting dead?

Depends. Some of us philosophers call it life. Your life is you in the process of getting dead. Do you think there is any difference in your life and anyone elses? Depends. If the only thing you consider is that you will eventually get cold and rot and so does everyone else then since things that are equal to the same thing are equal to each other then your life is the same as everyone elses and dead is dead. However, if you judge travel by the route taken, sights seen, food tasted, girls watched, music listened to (and on and on and on) rather than just the arrival at the final destination then there is a big difference. If dead is dead then why does civilized man fret over the means of execution? Why do we even, in slaughter houses, try to kill "humanely" with minimal extension of pain? Why do hunters strive for a "clean kill."

How many different varieties of carnivourous beings are there? One (1) those that eat meat. Most of us are in fact omnivores but I got your intent.

Couldn't help myself!!!!

Sure you could, and most likely would have if you could have anticipated my response.

I find it difficult to believe that you could possibly be in the "its the destination that counts not the process of getting there" group who argue dead is dead, period. Anyone truly beliving that and having at hand the means to successfuly commit suicide and doesn't is either lying to himself and or others and truly is a coward without the courage of his convictions.

OK, I answered your frivolous query at least semi-seriously and tried to be a good sport as well. Something came to mind, which I will relate in brief, but I will leave it to you to make the connection. In order to reduce the pain that a puppy experiences in the traumatic event of having his tail bobbed perhaps it would be better to just take off a quater of an inch each week to reduce the impact of doing it all at once.

Egon, by the way, did you miss the part where I said I was once a hobby falconer or something like that? I also used to raise rats to live feed to an owl that I was rehabilitating for later release. I am not anti-falconry, anti-hunting, fishing or whatever but I guess I don't condone clubbing baby harp seals to death. I simply thought it odd that a falconer would be so sensitive.

Was it good for you? I had fun.

Patrick:

You came through just as anticipated.

I have since deleted my post as it was not in keeping with the intent and decorum of this forum.
