A decent regulator/flow meter will cost you about $60 on sale, the cheaper ones work too but aren't as easy to read. One side will read the tank pressure in psi, the other side will read the gas flow in cfh/lpm. The gas solenoid has to be energized (trigger depressed) to get an accurate flow reading.

Another option would be getting a used victor/smith/harris/purox/airco flow meter. Cost less then a new import, and is a lot better.

I've bought a couple of these over the last few months. Not necessarily for my self, one was for a kid on another site to help him get set up to learn Tig welding, and the other was to sell a Mig welder I had.
That kid uses his flow meter all the time without any problems.
