Maybe no dentist?

I looked it up on Wikipedia.. after my post.. something about Harald Bluetooth uniting a bunch of Viking tribes.. so blu tooth is uniting devices. and the symbol for the blu-tooth is a made up rune (old norse alphabet symbol) of Haralds initials.. I sure didn't know all of that.

The story I had heard was that it was one of the developers favorite pirate character in one of his childhood comics.

It is interesting to see where these names came from. Now we have ice cream sandwich for an Android phone.

I'm still truing to figure out what Blue tooth is. I know only its an ear piece for a cell phone.
Now what is this "Cloud" crap. I don't understand that either???

Before 9/11, What was the worst Man Caused Disaster in the US????

Any idea who got the Blame????

Most probably the Texas City disaster in like 1947 or 1948; over 500 people died and untold property damage. I did considerable research on this subject back in the 70's when I was doing research on fire retardants and chemical defoliants; as I recall, workmen on the freighter Grandcamp got the blame, either from a fire started from a discarded cigarette or from a welder. The freighter was loaded with Ammonium Nitrate, which exploded in the harbor after it caught fire. Some of the recent stories I have read use it as an example of the dangerous properties of Ammonium Nitrate and fire. The danger is real, but what they don't tell you is the hold next to The Ammonium Nitrate was filled with elemental Sulfur; making the deadly combination of heat, an oxidizer (Ammonium Nitrate) and a reducing agent (Sulfur).

There were other disasters, such as the Three Mile Island and Exxon Valdez, but these were primarily property damage and clean up costs.

Anyone familiar with the Boston Molasses incident?

blu tooth is just a 2.4 ghz radio protocol. to pair up blu tooth devices, like headsets and phones, headset and computers or speakers or about any audio device you want to pair up instead of using wires. Typical ranges are about 30 feet, but some can go further. Even my 2010 Silverado pickup truck has it. You can get in with your cellphone and it will want to pair up the phone with the audio system in the truck.

The "Cloud" is way more complicated. One application of the "Cloud" would be just "cloud" storage, where you buy data storage space on some server, and you have good data connection speed to that location to keep all your data off site for disaster recovery purposes. You can also do "cloud computing" to have your processing power offsite. and just run a client at your local site.. Lots more too..Cloud networking to connect all of your sites... etc. It is all just "in the cloud" man!
Good explanation of remote cloud services. The term is a marketing one that typically refers to service like storage, computing, networking and application software. A person consuming it doesn't have typical day to day operation duty for upkeep and maintenance, they just use the service. We've been providing local cloud services for years before the term was widely used.

Halifax Explosion - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Halifax Explosion occurred near Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, on the morning of Thursday, December 6, 1917. SS Mont-Blanc, a French cargo ship fully laden with wartime explosives, collided with the Norwegian vessel SS Imo in the Narrows, a strait connecting the upper Halifax Harbour to Bedford Basin. Approximately twenty minutes later, a fire on board the French ship ignited her explosive cargo, causing a cataclysmic explosion that devastated the Richmond District of Halifax. Approximately 2,000 people were killed by debris, fires, and collapsed buildings, and it is estimated that nearly 9,000 others were injured. The blast was the largest man-made explosion prior to the development of nuclear weapons

The disaster was not an explosion. It killed 2,500 people, left many thousand families homeless & injured thousands more. It is rumored that some bodies have never been found & some were found over 300 miles away.

Carnegie got the blame & spent millions trying to repair some of the damage.

Try a few more guesses.

Mine tailings collapse draining settling pond causing mud flow/flood down stream? I remember seeing a program on one but I don't recall the casualties being that high.
