If not the fold down lengthwise seats then a wild guess: Facing backwards? I can't dig up any particular memory of different seats...but then I can't recall riding any pure military "transport" planes either, lots of civilian contract and regular commercial during station transfers.

The seats in military transports faced the back of the plane. It was considered a safety thing, that civilians would not have liked or gone for. Going from Hawaii to San Diego was one long boring ride. Even had the seats faced forward there was nothing to see, but clouds & water.

The Air Force had some triple Decker 4 engine transports. Going through Kuagalene (spelling??) where the runway starts at the ocean & ends at the ocean, there was one there that had landed with 2 engines out on 1 side. Bet that was "Fun".
What was that plane???

Also during WW2 there was a horrible plane accident there.
What happened??

There is a PBM about 1 nautical miles west of Ebeye??
Wonder if this is a P5M1 We lost a plane there in 1957. Overloaded, on the way to the PI, lost an engine in a violent storm. Desperation time for those guys. They threw everything possible out, right down to their wallets. At one point it got so low waves were hitting the hull.

The WW2 crash I was thinking of was not mentioned.

Thanks Again

The monstrosity that I was talking about was in album 5. Not the same plane I'm sure.
Lots of the pictures show the runway. Not much room for mistakes.

New question.
Before the Presidents planes call sign was Air Force 1, What was the call sign & why was it changed to AF1??
