BINGO - you are now moving to the head of the class.

2 Lane
I recall reading many years ago, that some early IC engines used a flame igniter system, although I cannot recall an example.
I think you are referring to an engine know as the "Sterling Engine", it had External combustion. AS the piston (S) went down they sucked in hot air, it cooled & pulled the pistons back up. Don't think it ever move up to a little more than a toy engine, with no practical uses.

The ignition system that I am asking about is used on both 2 cycle & 4 cycle internal combustion engines.

NEW QUESTION.

Who ( what company ) actually designed the military JEEP. Most were made by Ford & Willies, but they mostly just modified the original design.

ANOTHER NEW QUESTION.
What brand name was the first motorcycle made in Japan. It was made some time in the 1930s.

Bingo! I think that they actually were the designers, but were too small a company to manufacture the vehicle itself; that went to Ford and Willys I believe. They did manufacture the little trailer though.

Ahh. Mahindra came into the picture a bit later on the manufacturing end. Years ago Mahindra took out a full page advert in a regional trader paper that chronicled their history. I recalled reading about their involvement with Jeep during WWII. Interesting at the time, not knowing of their history.
