BINGO - you are now moving to the head of the class.

2 Lane
I recall reading many years ago, that some early IC engines used a flame igniter system, although I cannot recall an example.
I think you are referring to an engine know as the "Sterling Engine", it had External combustion. AS the piston (S) went down they sucked in hot air, it cooled & pulled the pistons back up. Don't think it ever move up to a little more than a toy engine, with no practical uses.

The ignition system that I am asking about is used on both 2 cycle & 4 cycle internal combustion engines.

NEW QUESTION.

Who ( what company ) actually designed the military JEEP. Most were made by Ford & Willies, but they mostly just modified the original design.

ANOTHER NEW QUESTION.
What brand name was the first motorcycle made in Japan. It was made some time in the 1930s.

Breaker (points and condenser/magneto)
Electronic
Compression
Those are the only three I know of

RE: Jeep design = Bantam

Jeep was made by the Bantam car company

Bingo! I think that they actually were the designers, but were too small a company to manufacture the vehicle itself; that went to Ford and Willys I believe. They did manufacture the little trailer though.

Ahh. Mahindra came into the picture a bit later on the manufacturing end. Years ago Mahindra took out a full page advert in a regional trader paper that chronicled their history. I recalled reading about their involvement with Jeep during WWII. Interesting at the time, not knowing of their history.

Stirling engines were used in IRRC mining to pump water out of mines. They were HUGE.

"corvair" is the answer to what question? I never heard of a factory supercharged one.

Yeah, but it was never supercharged if that is the one in question.

According to wikipedia; In 1962 Chevrolet introduced the Corvairs with few changes at the beginning of the year. The bottom line 500 series station wagon was dropped and the 700 became the base station wagon. The "Lakewood" name was dropped. The ever popular Monza line then took on a wagon model to round out the top of the line. In Spring of 1962 Chevrolet really committed itself to the sporty image they had created for the Corvair by finally introducing a Convertible version and then offering a high performance 150 hp (112 kW; 152 PS) turbocharged "Spyder" option for Monza coupes and convertibles, making the Corvair the second production automobile to come with a turbocharger as a factory option
The first factory turbocharged GM product was the Olds F 85

I got the Bantam car company connection from watching the History channel.. And the wife says that is a waste of time! Ha.. Just kidding, she watches it too.

I remember reading about Bantam when I was doing my homework on my M101CDN2 Army trailer. (Same as a M416)

WOW!!!!
I though Sterling engines had been lost in the dust bin of history. They are still being made & in use.

New Question,
What is called a hit & miss engine???/

On the 3rd type of ignition, here are some brand names. McCoy - Torpedo - Fox.

Another Question.
When something is called "The Real McCoy" what is being refereed to??

Hint on the MC question.
It did not have a Japanese name.
