Trouble with 1430

( You might check the ground connection from the battery to the frame for corrosion. I had a problem with mine and that fixed the problem. )

I would second this suggestion. It's cheap and easy to check this first. I replaced the starter solenoid and checked the ignition switch with a meter on the 1418 I used to own. (See my post from a few months back about a starting problem.) Finally looked at the battery ground cable after all this, and saw that it had corroded and was arcing against the body of the machine. It's a $5 cable, check it out first.

Thought I would update the conclusion of this problem.

I ordered and received the breaker, ignition switch, and neutral switch. I replaced the breaker lst and the unit started.
Interesting....

I now repeatedly have started the machine and sometimes the new breaker kicks out...but it does start after pushing it in. I also have found that my neutral switch does not keep the machine from starting while pushing on the treadle...so in the near future I plan on replacing it also. This could relate to the breaker still coming out but not sure.

My understanding is the solenoid on the starter is simply a "Ford" model and can be replaced without using a Bosch or Deutz solenoid. This is what Terry told me on the phone...

Anyway, the 1430 starts again and I am happy. I still think something else is in the works though. Thanks for eveyone's help...

Like you, I believe that there is still something wrong. Take a close look at the neutral switch. It may have an intermittent short to ground. Since the neutral switch is not working, I would replace it first and inspect the wiring near it.

I suspect that the old breaker was damaged by too much current during the short and was tripping too easily. The new breaker handles the overload better, but there still is an intermittent short. The new breaker may also be damaged in the future by this short.
An intermittent problem is usually difficult to isolate, but since the breaker is still tripping, then that is not the only thing wrong. Of course it could still be the solenoid or a wire shorting to ground. If you can, trace the wiring and physically inspect every inch of it. Look for any damage.

Again, I don't know this equipment, and I hope that someone else will give you better and more specific advice.

Good luck,

Bob Rip

Finally replace neutral switch on the 1430 and all works well now. So the switch was the problem after all.
