TROUBLE WITH KUBOTA?

Welcome, Oliver1. Sounds like you might have quite a lot of work on your hands to get the cattle ranch off the ground. I'm sure there are folks here that are currently involved in running one. It seems like just about every occupation is represented here/w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif. I'm telling ya - once you start asking this group for advice, you'll come here to get all of your questions answered. They might not be the best answers (although they usually are), but they sure will be among the most entertaining answers/w3tcompact/icons/grin.gif

I hope to start a small cattle ranch on my 20 acres as well. I really have no idea what I'm doing but I'm sure I'll learn as I go on!

We can share our stories here. I'll also attach a few links later on some good sites I found re cattle!

Roger, I would appreciate those web sites. It about time to start fly contol, their already on my cows. We had a mild winter. Maybe those web sites will have some new product or new delivery systems.

Also, think I have decided on that M6800. Going to talk with my dealer in person in a few days. Just been talking with him over the phone. You know, he didn't bash JD. He told me that they are a fine product, but just make sure that when I was shopping to compare apples to apples.

I have an M6800 and love it. With 24 hours on it I discovvered the tractor would pop out of second gear when going up a hill and the gas was let off. Search for M6800 and you can find my post. The dealer fixed it and you can not tell the tractor has been split. I think it was a bad batch of one part because another M6800 withing 5 serial numbers of mine had the same symptoms. Anyhow, the dealer had a bunch of transmission parts in a few days (no parts problem) and did a superb job.

Kubota had a problem and fixed it right, They get a 10+.

Oliver1,

I had the same decision to make. I am a reliability engineer for a major chemical company and part of my job function is to evaluate a piece of equipment to guess how well it will last. A lot of what I look at is how well it is thought out and engineered.

I chose M6800 for several reasons:

1. I want my tractor to last a vary long time. I once had a truck with a complcated shifter linkage that was a nightmare. I liked the simple shifter arrangement with the M6800 and think it will last longer without problems. The JD shifter was on the right hand side and was not as smooth at the bota. With fully synchronized main transmission it sififts like a sports car.

2. Service on the M6800 looked like it would be easier. Take the air filter element out of the JD and you will see what I mean. Not well though out.

3. Didn't like the way the JD loader valving worked. I think the tractor came with the valving, and plugging in the laoder required the loader hoses be run all the way to the back of the tractor. The loader valve also would not be useable for TNT if loader is installed.

4. Also liked the M6800 8F x 8R transmission. I think the JD might be 9F x 3R.

Some of the JD come with economy PTO which runs the PTO at 540 with a lower engine RPM for low HP applications, such as spraying. Wish the M6800 had this.

The M6800 is available with hydraulic shuttle or standard shuttle. The hydraulic shuttle scared me. It can not really be feathered like a dry clutch. It would last longer, but much harder to control. I heard of an incident where the oil was cold and the clutch did not release when the peddle was pushed. As I remember, a man was backing up to an implement and almostran over his osn. Think real hard before you spend the extra $2500 for an M6800 with hydraulic shuttle. The only reason I see to get it is if you plan on doing 80%+ loader work.

email me with any question you have. jrpoux@wcnet.net. You won't be dissapointed with an M6800. In this territory there is a lot of people that love JD. Both hold their valve.

jrpoux, thanks for the response and the offer for help. I actually discounted the JD shortly after this post because of the dealer, the price of the JD, and the responses from this post. Initially, I only looked at the JD and the Kubota, but after responses on another thread and talking to farmers in my area, I looked at the NH75. I finally decided on the NH because of the dealer, he was only about 10 miles away, the Bota about 45 miles. Also, I got a little better deal on the NH. It really was a tough choice. My major problem was getting comfortable buying the three cylinder turbo. Again, I got a lot of information from prior threads at TNB which made the choice a little easier.

Quality wise on these three tractors, I think it would be hard to go wrong on any of them. The TN is being delivered Monday, can hardly wait to put it to work. Good luck with your M6800, I really like that color.

Greetings from the Pine Tree State. I'm a tractor newbie for sure, in fact, I just drove my first rigs today (Kubota 3010 and 4310) at a local dealer. I will be buying a L3710 GST this coming week.
I want to echo others who have said how valuable TBN is. I've had so many questions answered just by reading through the posts and threads. Thanks to all of you.
I wrestled between orange and green for several months. Had settled on a JD 4500/4510 until Kubota's new financing and cash rebate program went into effect...that made them the best choice for my situation.
One of the two dealers in my area has both...so there is no competitor knocking there, and comparison is very easy.
I did raise an eyebrow when someone mentioned the hydro shifters freezing up (I'd settled on the GST trans.). Since it does get a tad chilly up this way I'm wondering if this is the best option...sure is nice to drive though. I'd appreciate any input you guys have. Thanks! <>Jim

This salesman sounds pretty dense. Perhaps his detached head would make a good front end weight for my new 7500!

I agree. Having been around tractors my whole life (and thus, dealers), I have found that John Deere dealers almost always bash anything not green. John Deere makes an excellent product, but you are sometimes paying extra for a name. There are many other good makes to choose from. I would encourage everyone to shop around and buy what you feel most comfortable with.

My JD dealer would be highly embarrassed by the conduct of the salesman you mentioned.
I own both John Deere and Kubota. I have also have been in sales for many years. The last thing you ever do is say something bad about your competitor. Usually when you do something like that you have insulted your customer.
When I looked at JD 4310 with the local dealer I told him I was also reviewing the Kubota L3010. The JD dealer was 100% professional. He tried to point out the features and benefits of the new JD product. He said nothing bad about Kubota-even when I told him I was not going to purchase his product (this time).
The Kubota salesman was identical to the JD salesman in professionalism and knowledge of his product. Not once did he have anything bad to say about Deere. I even introduced myself to him as a die-hard Deere owner and wanted to see what Kubota had to keep JD honest?
He got my business.
Next time I purchase a tractor I plan to give both dealers a shot. Who knows? John Deere may become more competitive or Kubota may increase selling prices? As long as the quality remains at the highest possible level and the business people I am dealing with are professionals then I am stuck between two excellent products to choose from.
The salesman who gave you that line of B.S. should be reported to his boss. If I was his manager I would want to know about it. I assure you the salesman would be uncomfortable at the closed door meeting I would have with him.
