I've owned an 07 Chevy HD 2500 Classic for the past 3 years. The only negative is the gas mileage. With the 6.0 and 4.10 gearing 11-12 around town and back and forth to work is all she will average. Towing is in the 10 range. My father's 14 foot dual axle box trailer pulls like an anchor. Running 70 MPH on the interstate she will average 9. Other than that with 100K miles she has performed really well. I bought it with a tick over 92K miles. Repairs so far have included a catalytic converter, window lift, and rear exhaust manifold stud. For what I paid for it the repair costs were reasonable IMHO.

Did you check out the Million mile cummins club?

He would have googled million mile cumminGs club, so he wouldn't have seen it.

I'd have to question the integrity of a person who would bash Cummins.

C'mon guys, drop the Cummins thing... it's only clogging up the guys thread, and not really adding a positive element to the thread... judging by the OP's comments and needs, I doubt they buy a diesel, of any brand.

I love my 3/4 ton truck but if I lived in, or commuted to, an urban area then I would have a second smaller vehicle.

Last 1/2 ton I had was a 1996 f150 ext cab and 8ft bed. My previous 2003 f250 ext cab and 6ft bed was significantly more cumbersome to maneuver in parking lots. My current 2016 f250 crew cab 6ft bed is even more so. It certainly can be navigated in and out of crowded parking lots but it is considerably more difficult.

Spot on. My daily driver is an older Buick Century that gets good mileage and inexpensive to run on the road. I only use my truck for toting and hauling. It is much easier to maneuver however than my old F350 dually was. I drove that truck for 10 years back and forth to work. Parking lots, drive trough's, and automated car washers are not dually friendly.

Exactly. Cummins is not the only diesel engine manufacturer.

My wife and I test drove an F150 extra cab (sorry I forget Ford's name for it, not a long crew cab). The 3.5 Ecoboost works reasonably well but the 10 speed trans had to downshift a lot and seemed slow to respond. The truck's ride was jiggly. More than I remember from my 2001 GMC C3. Then we test drove a Tundra SR5. Even though the AC was broken (QC fail!) we liked the engine and transmission more than the F150 and the ride was a bit more solid. Wife liked it and she's been wanting a truck for a long time. I'd been expecting to like the F150 more based on the reviews. Also the Tundra's cheaper.

I was looking for a recent model used Tundra but found a dealer who had exactly the model we were looking for new at a good discount. We ended up with a 2wd SR5 double cab with the SR5 upgrade package and the safety something or other package with various nannies to keep you from running into things. The wife will appreciate as she's not driven a full size truck before. She's a good driver and will adapt to the size but she's originally a city girl and didn't even get her license until she was 21.
