Bill,

That officer and his statement had to make your day! /w3tcompact/icons/frown.gif
But I could see that the only info he would have is that it was
an accident with an injury.

Tell your wife that the TBN Community sends their best wishes!

Did you keep the frog? /w3tcompact/icons/smile.gif

Later...
Dan

I am greatful to hear your wife is going to be okay.

Just a year ago I had a similar experience. My wife and youngest son (20) drove to where our second son (22) worked to offer him a ride home. I aslo stopped on my way home from work, which happened to be at the same time, to see if he need a ride not knowing they were going to do the same.

Second son climed in with me and mother and number three left for the 4 mile trip home less than 1 minute a head of us.

As I approached the intersection I said it looks like there is an accident up there, hope it isn't your brother and mother. Then the horror as I see it was my son's car with heavy damage to the front end, a F150 pulled in front of his Dodge Shadow as they were going straight through the intersection.

My wife broke the windshield with her head, lap belt on but no shoulder belt. She didn't have any lasting injuries, my son had the air bag which kept him from any harm.

That is a terrible sensation to come upon an accident and see your family, or anybodies family for that matter. I have half an idea how you felt.

Randy,
I haven't experienced the fright you must have felt in seeing an accident scene involving your family. Glad it turned out to be o.k. I do know of the worried feeling you get when you are held up or redirected because of an accident that is on a main pathway travelled by your family members, however. And the thankful feeling you get when you determine everything is fine at least as your loved ones go.

We have had seven daughters in the household with six driving concurrently...plus wife and self. So we have experienced our share of driving mishaps. Not that you get used to this, but I have now made 4 trips to the emergency room based upon phone calls (or visits) like the one I got for my wife. The sinking feeling and pleading prayers as you head off are the same. Hoping you have experienced your last frightful event...

I've made too many of these calls to family members to inform them of relatives' accidents. Luckily most calls concern patients that aren't too badly hurt. The best way to call relatives is to have the patient make the call themselves. The next best is for me to make the call, and when the relative says "hello", I say "Mary is OK and not badly hurt ... pause ... but I'm calling from the Emergency Department ... pause ... Mary's OK but she's been in an accident". That adrenaline thump your heart gets is still pretty stong any way you're informed.

DocHeb,
I hope the folks you have called appreciate your sensitivity and concern when delivering those messages, but if they have not been informmed "the hard way" they may not. I sure would. I hope the "adrenaline thump" (I wondered what the kick was) has not permanently damaged my ventricales. I have had enough of them. Worst was a car trip down from atop the Rockies at the continental divide...following an ambulance with this same wife on board. This is the short story. Began hemoraging and went into shock at the top of the mountain. They called for a chopper, but a snow and sleet storm hit us at about 10, 000 ft. It was an eternity waiting for the ambulance to arrive and worse following it slowly down the mountain. I had four of our young girls with me in the car. A quiet ride...silent tears. We lost all hope when the ambulance stopped halfway down and turned off the flashing lights. You can't imagine the feelings. Once again, however, God was with us...and obviously she survived. This wife makes Indiana Jones look pretty tame. You can get a hint of why I NEED my tractor.
