I don't know much about big trucks but had a friend buy a Pete several years ago and got the tandem converted to a single axle for free by letting the shop keep the tandem stuff. He told me older tandem tractors were near worthless compared to a single. Worth thinking about????

YES. The best choice for a heavy hauler is an old road tractor. They have lots of HP and comfort compared to a medium duty. If I were going to pull a 4 car wedge, I'd get a S/A road tractor.
