Does this truck have direct injection for fuel delivery? Not familiar with Chevy. If so all manufactures have been plagued with fuel getting past the rings and diluting (washing out) the oil. Oil with fuel in it breaks down very quickly and will cause issues with timing components. If so then change the oil no longer than 5k and less if you have an engine that has some blow by due to ring gap clearance issues. If no direct injection then you don't have to worry.
To answer your question, only a synthetic filter can last as long as synthetic oil. Since you have filters already, just change the filter at 5k and add oil to top it off.
I have a Ford with the ecoboost (TTDI) and it's hard on oil. I use Mobil 1 extended performance and change every 3k miles because of the DI and high pressure fuel pump. It's good oil...
Some Chev 2.4L four cylinders in 2010-2011 had common rail pump seal problems which dumped gasoline into the crankcase. The gasoline was not going past the piston rings.
