truck plow on a BX

There is not enough weight to keep plow down as I move the connection as close as I dare over the A frame. also I need to be able to do one of the 2 things- One tilt the plow to scrape ice If we ever get an ice storm, two I need to break the snow cap on top of the snow pile and then push more snow over the back of the snow bank. make sense ?

You could make a stiff link to replace the cylinder, that would allow down pressure to be applied and still free up the hydraulics for the angle cylinders.

Conceptually yes, but I guess I would argue the point that the plow weighs basically the same on the front of your tractor as it does on the front of a pickup since most of the plows weight is in front of where you tied into the A-Frame. Having said that, it would work better to be able to put more down force on the plow so it would scrape better. My concern would be the added stress it puts on your FEL arms.

I used to drive those big 45,000 lb truck highway snow plows and we had a couple of plows that were designed to be "power down" (Schmidt brand as I recall .... but I could not find them on Google so maybe I have lost too many brain cells). Anyways, they were built quite a bit heavier than their "gravity down" cousins. I have already had to tighten the frame brackets on my BX24 for the FEL. I am sure your idea will work well (you may lose a bit of steering if you reduce the pressure on the front tires). And you always have the option to change it later. Otherwise it looks great!

I'm bumping my old thread- I attached pics of my plow I put on the BX. So far I love it. It works great for my use and I love the fact I can push snow up the bank as high I can make it. I noticed that it works good in float and small loss of steering on blacktop, but on grass, it tends to trip the blade so I need to have a small lift if going forward on grass.

I really don't need the bucket as often I used to as The plow can hold some snow when curled all the way in while pushing up and over the bank.
