No replacement for displacement. Get you a V8 in whatever brand you find comfortable.
Personally I would recommend a diesel truck and then you won't have to worry if you have enough truck to tow anything you have. ;)

Interesting you mentioned a Nissan Titan. My brother has a 2018 Nissan Titan Platinum Reserve and I got to drive it a few hours towing a trailer. I found it extremely comfortable and fun to drive.
The 2018 is a completely different model from my 2015 so I can’t speak to how good they are. I know that they have not sold well.

I agree about the V8. I might be backward and a dinosaur but that’s what I believe should be in a gas truck.

Diesel would make no sense for me. I tow maybe 8 or 10 times a year and this truck tows 5-6k pounds on a 2k pound trailer very nicely.

One of the strengths of this truck/engine is that it makes nearly 80% of its torque just off of idle. It is a beast off the line and getting a trailer going. It is not a beast going from 65 or so up. Perfectly competent but not spectacular.

How many miles will you drive a truck per year on average

I'm really not sure. Less than 10k I suspect.

I'm not giving up my dodge ram 3500 4x4 for nothing, it is not stock and it is one towing machine.

I just looked on line for used trucks like mine, the exact year, cab etc. Its a 2017 F150, super cab, 4x4, 6.5 bed, XLT, 5.0, 302A option package, 36 gallon fuel tank, tow package and probably a couple other options. I don’t remember exactly what we paid but I think out the door was $39k on a sticker of $47k. It has about 31,000 miles on it.

Most were higher miles but a couple at around 42,000 mikes, $32k. One with 1,400 miles, similar to mine in terms of options, $43,987. OUCH!

OUCH! is right. That's too much for a new truck, let alone something that's 5 years old. If new vehicles ever become available again, people who are buying used now are going to take a beating.

I bought a 2016 Sierra slt last year in January. Purchased for $35k with low miles. Was out the door for around $22k with trading in my 09 Sierra.

Within 3 weeks the dealer wanted to purchase the truck back from me for $43k.

So you can imagine what they would have tried selling it for if I had sold it back to them.

I told them no thanks, I'm keeping the truck.

If everything goes electric, yours will be worth it's weight in gold.

Kind of strange how good, responsible people are and will be paying outrageous amounts of money to avoid saving the planet. I mean that in a very tongue-in-cheek way. The point being, those of us who want simple reliable machines are also people who care about the environment in reasonable common sense ways.

The whole emissions thing with tractors has created a used-tractor nightmare scenario. It reminds me of whatever legislation led to the gas can fiasco which created far worse safety problems than it was supposed to prevent and also led to dodgy but effective work arounds. Some number of years ago I was at the race track and the merchants there were selling 5 gallon "fluid" containers shaped remarkably like racers gas cans. They were even red. They had a wide mouth and a valve for venting. I bought four. I would like four more.
