Some of you may have heard of the American Truck Historical Society. It's an organization devoted to the preservation of antique trucks and trucking history. You don't have to own an antique truck to join, just have an interest in trucks and trucking history. The ATHS has chapters throughout the United States. We also have members around the world. As big as Texas is, we've only had one active chapter. Used to have four chapters but for one reason or another the other chapters disbanded.
I was able to form an east Texas chapter this summer, the East Texas Wildcatters Chapter of the ATHS. We recently had a small show at one of our member's shops. I drove my '59 White and at the end of the show loaded up a '53 Autocar winch truck to bring to the owner's shop. The Autocar was only one day from being scrapped when the owner bought the truck. Really no rust on the truck, floorboards look almost new. It weighed about 16,000#'s. My trailer weighs about 6000#'s and is rated at 24,000#GVW with 12,000# axles so I was within its capacity. The White never even broke a good sweat during the haul.
