Truck Restoration

4shorts, thanks for the kind words. I checked out your pictures of the forklift restoration and it's a work of art. I wish that I could have done more of the body work on the truck but I don't have the time, facilities or expertise to do what needed to be done. Anyone taking on a restoration needs to be aware of the expected and unexpected expenses that are going to happen.

The body shop is detailing the truck today. I will pick it up in the morning when I get off from work. I'd rather drive it when it's in the low 80's than when it's about 104 at noon.

The last picture is the only one of I have of the truck when Dad was still driving it. Probably in '66 because it was traded in for a '67 White Freightliner in the fall of '66.

Finally got it home. I'm very pleased with the results. There's no way I could have done this by myself with my equipment and gotten close to the what the body shop was able to do. There's still details to do, headliner to install, probably install noise deadening under the headliner and around the cab.

She looks great! Hard choice between the red and the green. Guess you did right going back to the oem color.

No question that it had to be red. I like red, Dad loved red and since it was originally red, it's red! I like green only on my tractors.

Who owned it between 1966 when it was traded in and you getting ahold of it.

Most trucks this age are long gone but this truck got lucky. My truck was the first diesel truck sold by the owner of the White dealership in Tyler, Texas, Brodnax White Truck. When it was traded in for a new White Freightliner in '66, Mr. Brodnax kept the White (for sentimental reasons) and made a wrecker out of it. It was used over the road as a wrecker from '66 through '86 and then used around the shop for another 10 years. In the meantime, Mr. Brodnax died and the dealership went through two other owners by the time I bought the truck in January '06.
