Tire Selection Truck tires that actually wear

For me tread wise a street tread is fine. More rubber means more wear? I dunno if heat build up affects wear either. Real hot weather increases my pressure. For that reason I run 65 front and 75 rear so the tire warning light doesn't present itself. Nitrogen is supposed to keep a more consistent tire temp. Good for this application?

What is the GVWR of the truck ? If you are close to the limit, you may need a bigger tire to get longer life. Nitrogen does help minimize temperature-related pressure swings.

^ That one is a pure Summer tire. After people got tired of putting sets of tires on their class B RVs, that is the one my buddy would sell them. Clearly not a low temperature tire, but that's how you get the tread life. If you run high Summer miles, that may be of interest.....

I run their M700 on my one-ton year round. Not Michelin smooth, but a tough LT truck tire that has served me well.

How much of that is just highway miles?

Hard to compare everyone's milage they are getting without knowing how they are driving.

I get 30k out of any good tire. But 25k is towing, hauling, plowing. Someone driving the truck daily, unladen......and only.ocassionally weekend tow....might get 60 or 70k.

So it all just depends.

My parents had an 05 ram 2500 hemi 4x4. Stock tires on them were the same as the stocks on the Ford's at the time also. BFG rugged trails. 85k but never towed or hauled.

Good point! My neighbor has the same tires on his F350 and he's pushing 80K with them; all highway, very little towing.

My truck probably has a trailer of some type on it half the time. Dump trailer, equipment trailer or camper.

Your point is well taken.

I've had very good luck with my Nitto Terra Grappler A/T (haven't used the newer A/T2 yet).
We have them on 2 vehicles, second set on my Ram 2500 CTD 4x4 4dr that mostly is loaded or towing, they've held up pretty well, based on where they are at now I would say 50-60k is expected before replacment.

The other set is on my wife's LR3 and also seem to be wearing well, not sure on the mileage but are holding up and wearing well.

Both vehicles will probably be getting a set of Terra Grappler A/T2 next time around.

If you don't need an A/T tire the Grappler H/T seems to be well liked and has a beefy looking tread pattern.

Whew! You wouldn't believe the results when I googled ECLH:laughing: Correct 1stDeuce On a road offa road offa road offa road. Actually, the term "midwest" region was always a puzzler...

I had to google Lake Huron :D. Agree about Midwest, it is not even west. It should be upper central or something.

I run BFG KO2's on my Sierra 2500HD. A little over 30,000 on this set and still look good, got a little over 50K from the last set. Like 1stDeuce said, I run 60 psi all around unless I'm towing, at which time I'll increase the rears to 70 psi.

The KOs do really well in rain and snow. Noisier than the stock Michelins, but much better wearing. Plus I don't need 4WD just to drive between the barns.

Best. Freaking. Tire. On. The. Planet.

Mic drop.....

Interesting...

maybe I'll try these instead of the Firestones next time...
I'd bet that you'll never buy a Firestone again. The biggest reason I see people give that they do not buy/try the BFG is finances. It's one of, if not the most pricier options. But, if kept inflated and rotated at reasonable intervals, they wear like iron. And... Like magic.... They have excellent off-road performance as long as your not in clay-mud. Mild Rock crawling Jeeps use them, lots of general Off-road guys and overland to off-roaders use them. They are the Swiss army knife of 4x4 tires. They do well at so much that there are few products in the market that can really and fairly be compared to them.

I like my Michelin LTX's. About 35k so far and I think they'll go to 50. F250 7.3 CCLWB and towing 80% of the time up to 10k.

My tire shop says the guys that want serious treadwear go with firestone transforce tires, so I will try those next. Should be a couple years from now.
My Ram 2500 came with the Transforce tires. They have 25,000 miles on them & are wearing good but they have zero traction. Wet grass + flat ground & you're stuck until you go to 4WD.

Here is a tire review from Expedition Portal. Note that the BFG in this test is KO, not the current KO2. We are running KO2 on a Toyota 4 Runner, but not long enough to really have an opinion. And a 4Runner is a long way from a loaded 1 ton truck, so may not appy to OP.
