Oaktree - you haven't seen the Rivian commercial yet where they are pulling some big covered trailer cross-country. The idea being - this Rivian IS tough enough to do work for you. Strange - this "heavy pull" commercial never mentions the range the Rivian got.
Haven't seen ANY Rivian ad, was just agreeing with your comments about dragster pickup trucks. I'm gonna go out on a limb and venture a guess that very few of these (or the the weird looking Tesla truck, if it ever gets built) will be used to do actual work, but more as a status symbol.
Whew boy….the hypocrisy (above) of beating up on guys that want to spend their money however they please on whatever they want is just amazing.
I dont care if you live on 1 acre and want to own a bulldozer, it doesnt matter. This is America and a person has the liberty and freedom to pursue their interests and dreams,
as long as they arent hurting anyone.
Don't recall anyone saying they can't.
One site I visited estimates our power usage will increase about 35% if 75% of the cars on the road become electric. I’ve read up on EV’s a bit, as I have long thought they would make a great second vehicle... ever since reading an article in “Mother Earth News” about converting a normal car to run on batteries. About 20 years ago the University of Maine built a solar S-10; it had a panel covering the entire 7 foot bed. It was interesting if not practical.

I’m not necessarily opposed to them. I just don’t believe that mandating them is right... especially since much of the technology is just voodoo magic, as well as merely a way to transfer our pollution problems; as well as more of our money; to another country.
Don't recall that article, but a while back they published an article on someone who converted a Dakota to run on wood chips. Trouble is the gasifier and a supply of fuel took up the whole bed making it pretty useless as a truck. Cool that someone was ingenious enough to come up with it, but not very practical.

Agree on your opposition to government mandates. I don't think most people care what type of engine powers their car as long as it's a quality vehicle that does what they want/need it to do.
And if you look at the big picture, they're not even very "green". The raw materials for the batteries come mostly from China and we all know about their sterling environmental record.

You sound like a talking point on Sky News. Remember, "With Liberty and Justice for All"? I'll give you a hint, it also includes , "One Nation Under God".
It is unfortunate that they divided the "One Nation, Indivisible" phrase. As an unbeliever, I don't see that the "under god" stuff accomplishes anything but divisiveness. When I was a kid, the motto of the United States was E Pluribus Unum. I liked that one.

That's of those "things" which will work itself out. I have AAA. If I run out, they will bring me a gallon of gas. I also have free towing up to 100 miles. Perhaps they will indeed tow you. I haven't run out of gas in 40 years. I decided I didn't like it. ;)

For me running out of gas, electricity, or other breakdowns in the wrong place at the wrong time of year could be life threatening; especially as I get older and can't walk as far as I used to. (I once put a piston out through the crankcase on my snowsled so I worked all day, then walked about 5 miles out of the woods. I can't do that anymore.) I asked questions similar to yours in the "Battery based vehicles" thread and got nothing but ridiculed and labeled as a "hater" for my troubles. I finally had to stop reading that thread. I don't mind opposing viewpoints but don't deal well with fanatics.
This has already been thought of and solved. The car goes into power saver mode long before the battery is completely drained and leaves enough reserve power to get you safely off the road and to a power source. Also a 15 minute boost from a mobile fast charger would give you 30 miles or so more range. And who runs out of gas anymore? Any car built in the last 30 years warns you with persistent alarms well before you run dry. Electric vehicles are the future my friend. And, they are over-all more reliable with fewer failure points.

My auto insurance plan has roadside assistance. So, I can not get to a recharge station with my new EV and the battery poops out. Will the insurance pay for an auto hauler to come out and transport me to a recharge station.

You know - it's going to take a lot more mental involvement to make sure this exact scenario does not happen. Look at all the folks who run out of gas - and that's easy. Will they all be capable of preventing this in their new EV.

There is a car - pulled off on the road side. It's an EV. So - you stop to help. What are you going to give him - a gallon of electricity.
Sure, you could give them a “gallon of electricity.” The electric Ford pickup has an outlet next to the tailgate that can be used to power anything from the truck’s batteries. People are buying them to double as a home power backup and for jobsite power.

The problem with that is that people will still run the vehicle out of charge, then it’s difficult to get it running again especially if it’s stuck in bumper to bumper traffic, a tunnel, bridge, etc. It’s not solved because the problem isn’t if there’s a reserve battery. The problem is how do you move a dead EV stuck in a mile long traffic jam in a bridge or tunnel? We also know the EVs will still have sensors that fail or get into accidents where they will become disabled just like n ICEV

The problem is solved because it isn’t a problem. EV sales are increasing every year because they make sense for a lot of people. You obviously have a problem with EVs and the people that want to buy them. No one is going to make you buy one. An IC car is more likely to need a tow than an EV is due to fewer failure points in the EV power train. I pass broken down gasoline powered cars sitting in the emergency lane every day. You’re beating a dead horse.

Actually, if you read my posts, you’d see I really want an EV truck.
I’m just skeptical when government mandates (CA all EV by ‘35) and taxpayer money is needed (EV charging infrastructure) to make a consumer item more appealing to the general public.
Im also very skeptical of the rare earth minerals, lithium, etc. that needs to be mined, further destroying the earth, to make them. I’m also unhappy that most of the cars are made offshore and they cant be owned by most people living in cities, where they would actually have the greates impact in reducing hot spots in major metro areas.

Here, as in most internet discussions, there is no such thing as middle ground. I would like an EV as a second vehicle but right now they aren't practical for me. I had considered a hybrid Maverick instead, but Ford has been overwhelmed by their popularity.

I always find it ironic when people say that "nobody is going to mandate you can't have a gas auto", when it has already started.
Then they crow about how high a barrel of oil might cost... while plugging into their government subsidized charger for electricity which is cost controlled by government mandate.
