Trucks

Atlanta in general has mucho wrecks, there is a number of wrecks on the main road I live off of every day. We just saw some fresh shattered glass when we went out this evening. I guess I'm paying for those wrecks via Allstate. /forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I'm looking at the slide in campers, it really seems like the best option for traveling off road in parks. Plus I like to pull bikes or ATV's and the camper would be very nice. I don't think I would drive enough miles for a motorhome. Hotels are usually a bother when your way off in an ORV riding area. I like boondocking as much as possible. Love to use RVs. One of these days I'll have a slide in. May take a little time though, I need to pay off something first. /forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

"What kinda trucks do you use to around your property towing your tractor and such. Here is a pic of my new toy. "

Melville, truck schmuck, I want the lake and house.

Daryl or 5030, your truck looks just like mine, well , take off the house and 2 doors.

Lucy was stuck. That girl is mud wrestler at heart I tell you. If she gets a chance to get in it she just sits there and wallows. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

I have a truck for ya, It is a 1978 Ford F-250 4x4 "Camper Special" with a 351 modified with a 4 barrel intake and carb and a comp cam, it also has Dana 60 axles front and rear with 3:54 gears, with 33" tall Buckshot mud tires. It has 137,000 origial miles but not the original motor (i just swaped this one in) I bought the truck from the original owner who bought it new and used it in the oil field. It also has no rust on it anyone. Sorry no pictures right now camera is still broke.
I love this truck because it is 99% metal and 1% plastic, it only wiegh's a little over 5000lbs.

I hope it's Cleveland and not a Windsor

Oh Oh, time for the Windsor/Cleveland war. /forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif I'm a Windsor guy myself. Why? becouse they are better. /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif /forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

[sorry, I could not resist that /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif]

But I think he is talking about the 351M. A destroked 400M based on the Cleveland, but a taller deck, and smaller heads.

Ryan, I don't know much about vehicles, but that style of Ford truck was easily the nicest looking truck available. I still really like it. It says "I'm going somewhere" it always looked like it was moving even when wasn't. The C6 was about as bullet proof a transmission ever made, the Cleveland was a beast and the Windsor was so smooth. I liked both but owned neither except in my Master Craft boat. My last truck was a 1963 GMC 3/4 ton truck. It had a 305E V6 that made the 460 look like a small block. I still eye well kept 76, 77, 78 Fords, especially stock, they have a real look to them. Rat...

You called it. A 351 Modified. Sometimes called the midland. When the Windsor came out in trucks, demand was higher than output. So, they took the 400 block and rods, reworked a Windsor crank, (has an extra little ditty on the snout) and made some tall (!!!) pistons to take up the gap. Viola! the 351M.

The 400 crank fits right back in there with some 400 pistons. Somthing to keep in mind when it's rebuild time.

With an aftermarket cam, intake, and some headers. These things really wake up.

For you Windsor lovers, The crank fits in a 351W with some modifications. These days it's about as cheap to just get a Scat or Eagle crank though.

Time to test the blue oval blood here. Anyone know what a 351K is? (jeopardy theme playing)

Anyone know what a 351K is?

Never heard of a K, but had heard of anouther 351. Back in the late 50's early 60's maymy? Maby based on the Linclon V8?

Now are for Ford making easy cube incresses. A 429 can be bumped to 460, with just a crank, and piston change. Rods are the same and everything. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Everything but the CI, and the Ford name. The Windsor is a bigger 302. Taller deck, wider, but the heads are the same. The windsor has a lot going for it. A BIG crank, real good oil system, and a good parts avalibilty. The down side is the heads are kind of small. Makes for a real strong, low RPM motor, but falls flat up high.

Now the 351C has a real good head design, based on the Boss 302 design. And was a good high RPM motor. The bottom end is a bit weaker then the W. Oiling was not as good, but with those heads, she would crank.

The good thing with the W, is there are a TON of aftermarket heads out there for cheep. So you can keep the good parts of the W, but have the better flow, and high RPM power of the C

Sorry to drone on, and steer this away from the topic. But I would say I am a dyed in the wool Ford guy, and have spent a bit of time elbow deep in a crankcase. /forums/images/graemlins/cool.gif

Ya, that is another reason why i like the old ford's cause they have that attitude "of get out of my way". The original motor that was in the truck is a 400M with 2-barrel carb. I also have a 351 clevland motor out of my dad's Mecury cougar, and also have C6 trans with B&M shift kit in it out of the 77' 1/2 ton truck that i bought for parts i want $350.00 for it. My ford is a 78' with 7" round headlights instead of square. It also has the 4spd trans in it. My uncle has 79' F-350 extended cab 2wd dually with a 10ft all steel flatbed. The truck has a built 429 in with the 4-spd trans, posi rear end with 4:10 gears and the truck has dual 6" stainless stack on each side of the cab which make for a very loud, very good sound /forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif. He is selling this truck too!

I've got a '73 250 that Dad bought new - has a 390 in it with the 4 speed (1st is really granny). I want to sell it 'cause it just sits. I seldom run it. It sits in the country and I use it when there and I have time to mess with it - but it's no good on it just letting it sit idle. The factory seats have never been sat on. Dad put seat covers on it as soon as he got it home and they've had covers on 'em since. The one strange thing about it that he always stressed to me - the tranny takes 50 weight motor oil - not gear oil. Dad's gone now a year and I have emotional trouble using his truck -

Egon:

A Cleveland Motor was cast and assembled at the Ford Foundry in Cleveland, Ohio. The Windsor Wwas cast and assembled in Windsor, Ontario. I am partial to the Cleveland, I was born and raised near the foundry. It really stank if the wind was blowing the right way!!!
I say I am partial to the Cleveland, but in reality, I am partial to the 7.3 International Diesel that Ford thoughtfully installed in my pickup truck.

351K is what they started calling Windsors in '77 when they started putting the 302 heads on them; before they started calling them windsors again. /forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

The only other close one besides the 351industrial I can think of is the 352FE.

The shop manual for my bronco says the same thing about the transfer case. I have since learned that 50wt motor oil has nearly the same viscosity as gear oil. Not suggesting changing anything as obviously it works. I love old ford trucks.
