Chucko,
How big a span do you need? One thing to consider is mobile-home trusses. I'm in FL too, and there are PLENTY of new mobile home trusses to be had cheaply. Usually they are made for one roof, and the owner changes the plans. You can screw together a pair of double wide trusses and scab 1/2" plywood gussets on both sides - to give you a 28' clear span for about $15 for each truss. I was skeptical about using these until I built a pole barn for a friend. They are very well engineered and I had my 250lb butt up on the roof and no sag - was VERY happy. We did a 24 X 28 roof for $175 (trusses, gussets & purlins). I know they are down your way too. I'm in G'ville.

I work at Alpine. Truss Eng and Truss Eng programs is what we do. I am a software tester for them. I don't need trusses I was just trying to be help out a little
Besides I am in Florida and you would not belive the wind codes we have now. most DIY trusses are frowned on by the building department....not that say it is not done
