Ya beat me to it Dave. Reminds me of the time I went to Lowe's looking for some Rid for my septic tank. I asked the young lady in that part of the store where I could find the Rid. She walked slowly over to that area, looked up at me and asked "Is the name of it Rid or is the color of it Rid?" I said "No, the name of it is Rid...R-I-D.". Then I asked her, "Where you from, Alabama?". She grinned and said "Yeah". We both had a good laugh.

We call those a yo-yo in Texas. Amazon has them made by Ames and one that's open on one side of the triangle is called a whip or whipper. You never have to mix gas for those 'weed eaters.'

we call them swing-flings here. getting harder to find every year. mines about 25ys old.. and blade has been sharpened about as much as it can be..

I needed a log roller. I went to a REAL hardware store and they did not have a log roller in stock but they could order me a Cant Hook. We called them log rollers but the store and company called it a Can't Hook.

We always called the weed whip a weed whacker but now a weed whacker is the noisy motorized gadget.

We used to call them weed whackers. I've also heard them called weed whips. But never a sling. Fun to hear how the same thing can be called so many different names.

Yup, me too. Weed Whips mostly but a few called them Weed Whackers.

I remember years ago when chain gangs used them to clean roadsides. I still have one in the garage but seldom use it anymore.

They still use them around here, yet the guys aren't on a chain anymore. Im talking about the tool were talking about not the laborers.

I have heard it called a "slig blade" as well or a Kiser blade, haha as the guy referring to the Billy bob Thorton movie already mentioned. Well actually never heard of Kiser blade other than form the movie. I also am only 31 but know what one iss.
