Well boys we finally had a couple of days with no rain and the sun was out so I thought I would try the new 72" Frontier rotary cutter that was a package deal with the new 3720. I got her a little muddy but all in all was very impressed with the cutter and really enjoyed the comfort of the cab and the outstanding lighting the jd work lights provided. I got a little video to share with you all.

Sweet video...

Any thoughts on the size of the cutter for the 3720? Was it good? To big? To small? How did the 3720 handle with that sucker hitched on the back?

Nice video, and I'm sure you enjoyed your first outing with that cutter!

I have been using a 48 inch cutter on a little open station kubota 7510 for two years now in this cab with the 72" cutter it is like heaven. One thing about the frontier cutters is for there size they are very light. The machine has no problem at all with it. The only issue was me running it as low as I could and once in awhile would hit a birm of mud and have to raise it up so not to be hard on the machine or stall the pto.

DP - nice job on the selection and the video. I own the Frontier RC2060 as it gives me the maneuverability that I need. I am also very happy with the equipment. Question for you, what type of grass are you mowing? Maybe its the dusk or angle but not sure what you are mowing. Nice equipment if I didn't mention it.

Looks to me like the mower works A-OK. Who gets to maintain that wood fence? Did you dub in the tunes on the video, or was that directly from the tractor's stereo system?

Thanks Gary - I am sorry they are just all sorts of weeds and to be honest I can't identify all of them rite now would have to look it up. It just falls under the property standards bylaw in my Township and there was about 5 acres of weeds on the property that is scheduled to be developed in an urban area. The outer edge of the field starts into a soy bean crop if you notice where I am turning around. The development company rents the rest of the land to farmers I think the land can go for around $100.00 to $200.00 an acre for crops and this company owns almost every inch of open land in my township.

That fence is owned by the development company I am working for in the video so it is there responsibilty however I honestly don't think they have done anything to the fence since it went up about 7 years ago. They were going to build a cement sound barrier fence instead on there dime and the town stopped them over some kind of bylaw issues or more expensive paper work. So the company got pissed off and said the **** with it and through up the wood fence.
The music is direct from the JD factory Jenson heavy duty stereo and factory speakers I am really happy with the sound quality.

Nice video!

Are you running chains on the front? If so, do they cut down on all the dust and other flying material between the cutter and the tractor?

Wow, is that cab as quiet as it seems? Can barely hear tractor or cutter, only the music. I have never owned a cab tractor among the three i have owned but i'm seriously considering one when i upgrade from a 3320 john deere to a 4000 series deere. Nice video though................................

Rockgod - I think you are referring to chains on the rotary cutter. I have chains on the front and back of my RC which I find as a safety factor from thrown objects from the RC but I don't see a real difference in the dust factor and wouldn't think that the chains would do anything to keep down the dust. I would guess you could try a rubber guard and that may keep down the dust. Something to think about and ask around. If you try it let us know.

Thanks, I had a feeling they wouldn't make that much of a difference. :(

NO the cutter came with a steel rear guard and a rubber belt front guard I was kind of dissapointed with the front belt guard it already got chewed up in the middle after the first day of use. I called the dealer and wanted the chains that are shown in the frontier manual but of course they cost about 200.00 dollars actually they told me they are over 300 dollars but since I bought everything from them I could have them for about 200 so I told them to order them. I have sidewalks along several of the properties I cut and people do go out walking I can't risk a safety issue over a couple hundred buxs!

That's very dissapointing to hear. It seems like all the dust and light material just swirl around that area between the mower and the tractor. I don't know about you but my cabin filter is taking a beating. I hoped that chains/rubber belt might help prevent all the filter cleaning/replacing. :(

BTW- Filters are $31 each

Did yours come with the chains or are you thinking of adding them?

Yes sir John Deere sales pitch about being the quietest cabs in there class I think must be true. There pressurized like and airplane kind of. You can sit in the cab with the doors closed and have someone yelling at you rite up to the glass and you can't hear them...:D For safety that means you definately have to make sure you always are looking around front back and sides as there would be no sound warning if you were going to get in a bad situation. I had the cutter up for a minute last night when all of a sudden this stupid little dog that was walking with it's owners runs off of the sidewalk and into the field he almost ran rite under the raised cutter barking away (and the cutter was on) I just about had a heartattack and jumped to shut the pto off. The owners thought it was funny and called the dog away and I was thinking to myself that could have turned out very badly had I dropped the cutter and never looked behind me. It is amazing how when you are tyring to be carefull and everything looks calm and quiet how fast that can change and how kids can come out of nowhere- of course there attracted to the machines.

That's funny, just today I was reading how a TBN member HATED the noise level from the engine on his OS 4720. I couldn't for the life of me figure out what he was talking about

Why are your filters getting bad so fast? are you doing a lot of rotary cutting in dry dusty conditions? how many hours on average have you been changing the air filter at? thanks.
