LS is based out of Battleboro, NC. (Korean Company)

They produce some models for New Holland.

LS changed 2 years ago to their own in house engine for models over 25hp.

Yes, LS has provided various New Holland models. I've not researched others, though I've seen reference to others.

My R3039H has a Mitsubishi engine. They have also used Shibaura engines. My understanding is they are using an in house produced engine in current models.

Reviews of LS tractors has been more positive and negative. I know I'm extremely happy with mine.

My recent post with regards to the subject. I'd lean toward the Mahindra:

I have the 15xx series and looked multiple times at the L series Kubota. My purchase was made in the last 6 months with research for the last 10-12 months. The 15xx series is considered the "premium" line for Mahindra. The tilt wheel, speed control, loader control location are just a few examples. The L series, by comparison, is a very basic model with few frills. No tilt wheel, mid PTO, bucket level indicator, speed control, etc. The L series doesn't even come with SSQA or adjustable sway control links on the 3 pt. I wanted to like the Kubota so bad but the L series is lacking. To me all their R&D has gone to other lines and products and the current L series is overdue. Also look the machines' specs like weight and lifting capacity. note the Kubota needs spacers in the rear if you want to run chains.
To me it came down to paying more for less features and specs so I had the Kubota name or going Mahindra. I went Mahindra since this size uses the proven Mitsubishi chassis and drivetrain and offered a better warranty. Plus, in my size, the EPA requirements were better planned and executed on the Mahindra.
The Max line is similar to the B series Kubota so I only briefly looked at those. I have heard good things about the Max and several owners are on this site. I'm sure one will weigh in with regards to that model. From what I saw the B series Kubota (recent upgrades) and Max series are far closer with regards to features- that would have been a tougher choice. But L to 15xx isn't close until Kubota does an upgrade to that line.

Good luck and enjoy the hunt!

I'm comfortable with my opinion and letting you have yours.

If, in a year or so, when he decides he needs SSQA and for $1000 he can pay someone to convert his loader (I a have been quoted $3300) AND all of the implements he has to SSQA (since the pin-on specific implements are almost impossible to sell) he should go that way. Lol.

Oh and he paid a premium for these now obsolete implements because everything on the used market is SSQA.

When your looking at investing 5-8k in a tractor worth 17k you wish you had make the right choice to begin with.

Just my opinion though :drink:
Do you have any numbers on converting from 2WD to 4WD?
And he doesn't have any implements to convert.

Hey Steppenwolf - thanks for the info & reassurance. That's basically exact area we are in. U close to the Smith River? I've got a hunch that we are really close neighbors. I'd guess less than 10 miles apart if that.

The fel on the 3901 has given me pause mostly bc of specs & the mahindra weighing more than it. I think I've ready to many forum posts lol.

Smith River is mile and a half from my house, cabin property backs up to the Dan River near Meadows of Dan at 3,000 ft elevation. You now own an official slice of Heaven...

I'd jump on that Kubota -- it's a heck of a deal and you do not find deals like that very often.

Max is much too small for what you describe.

The - it's a small world. Builders & mostly subs in general in that area have been something. I guess they don't have to worry about as much competition up there lol. Lots of no shows & slooooooowwwww work.

This is no joke, subs up on the mountain have a different pace and calendar. Good people though, and incredibly hard working. Treat them with respect and you'll be fine. Also, listening to Blue Grass is required...

Nice. 1st place we stayed when we visited the area were the cabins @ Cockham mill. Love
lovers Leap as well. Best though is Felicia's store. Her FB page has some great pics & info.

Maybe I should just buy the Mahindra so I could afford to play a round of golf @ Primland lol. Still looking for a connection out there to get 18 in under $175

That's a great post. I'll be the 1st to admit that the Mahindra 1526 was more comfortable to me in the cockpit than the L3901. I know I shouldn't go off HP but the combo of higher HP & perceived equity in Kub & higher resale value is what keep me considering the bota vs just picking up the Mahindra.

I believe your 4wd conversion is a straw horse argument so I'm not sure sure what it matters. My point was that IMO, SSQA it is a VERY important feature to start out with. Cheers. :drink:

By the time he realizes how useful it is he WILL have a few attachments. Just my advice from experience to the OP.
