Wow, thanks much! Looks like a bit of work, but I will dig into it.

You are the man!

Well, the bank probably doesn't care if it's the right number or not, they just need A number.. Use mine if you have to, 85832.
I think you'll find it's there, though, it'd be a ***** of a spot to try and grind smooth without disassembling everything. Even with a mirror I still couldn't see all of the serial number, just the first three digits.

ratsnakeboogy if you really want piece of mind on this,,
find out when this gentlemen bought the tractor.
Then go to your local police dept. and ask if a tractor of that model was
ever reported stolen in and around that year.
You could also check out your local Kubota dealer with the same info.
If you do purchase this machine, the onus will be on you,
should you be stopped by police, to prove ownership, a bill of sale with no serial # on it,
won't do it, something to consider.

Going to tear into it tomorrow at the guys house and follow Chilli's instructions. I've got 3 boys in baseball today. I bet it's there. If not, the bank said engine serial, and loader serial will work.

I know this is an old thread. I'm in the same boat. Going to look at an L3400 tomorrow. Wondering if you ever found it?

Nevermind. I found it. Just where it was supposed to be on the right side of transmission. Had to take a piece of sheet metal off in order to see around a linkage that was mounted in front of the serial number.

Beware of 2's that look like 9's. I was sure it was a 9 with a scratch on it, but it was a funny Japanese 2. Confirmed by dealer -- loader SN matched the tractor SN with the 2, both sold together in Kubota's records. They also checked to make sure it wasn't reported as stolen.

So now I have a L3400 HST with LA436 loader w QA bucket! Very sweet!
