I can get your ssn with your name and address, and if i have your drivers lic. number i can get it in a few seconds.
I finally got 1 young (under 25) applicant. He is a novice welder and does not know the cutting torch. He is a "Tech" type and I really don't know if he will take to shop work. I may give him a trial period and see how quick a learner he is. I really have reservations about training him and then have him go for a tech job a year down the road. What to do? Ken Sweet
That's the quandry of any employer. Pay to train the guy, but realise that the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence.
Offer him a decent wage, but reserve enough so that you can afford a 25% pay increase after 6 months or a year. Also a decent benefit package after the same time period, which still can keep you in business.(Profitably) In my experience, that's what most small employers have done.
We ve been jumping through hoops to get an extra hand at work. Ive had lots of folks that will work for cash and as mentioned drawing a disability check for 700 to 800 per month then wanting cash. We dont hire them. We pay for experieance and if you learn someting you get a raise like gettin CDLs, learning to set grade, and mechanicing. We had a guy stop by and wanted to work for 10 an hour cash I told him I cant do that as the company pays out checks. He was telling me the oh so sad story of how he was an alcoholic and drew DI for it but he could deer hunt 12 hours a day. His wife Was drawing a check for having Rhumitoid Arthritis but still competes in the local rock climbing competition. My favorite check drawers are the ones that claim bad backs
and draw a check for it but can deer hunt, and haul scrap iron.
I quit having pity o nthe sad stories after I got to seeing folks that draw disability and arent disabled and then see people that actually need it but cant get it.
Same thing here in Ky. I am afraid a big percentage of our nation is on the "Draw" illegally and there is nothing gumment can do about it. If they were all caught, we would lose about as many gumment employees that administer the programs. Ken Sweet
