pay more than minimum wage you'll find the talent will get better.

We start out pay way above minimum wage and the opportunity to move up in pay according to how quickly skills are learned. Sales people work on commission in addition to a good base hourley rate. Ken Sweet

Someone sent me a PM and suggested I hire a retired farmer that already knew farm machines and mechanics. I already have 3 of those guys and they are great, however, they can only make 14,000 per year without messing up thier Social Security checks. What to do?? Ken Sweet

Could you hire 3 more of them part time to equal on full-timer?

That's awesome that you have a multi-generational business. It's wonderful for your family and for the employees. The place where I work is family owned, is being run by the 2nd generation and is a great place to work. The atmosphere is much better than working for a publicly traded corporation like I've done in the past.

I agree, I would think one full time guy would be more committed than three part-timers. I know I would not have the commitment to one company if I am also working at one or two other places. Also each guy may have a slightly different way of doing something and it could create a problem later on.

Just my 2 cents, but I don't think I would do it.

If you hire three part-timers, they're going to form a union and all the local papers will start running articles about how your cruel "family dynasty" of a business is trampling on the little guy by not offering full-time employment and benefits. :laughing:
