I hate to ask a stupid question, but I ran a nail through the front tire of my GR2100. I tried to plug it, but it wouldn't hold. Is there any reason I can't just put a tube in the tire?? Thanks Guys...

A tube will go straight in . But if your going to have the tyre off anyway why dont you just get the tyre service to put a patch on the inside of the tyre ? If you want to drive the tractor to the tyre service to have it repaired , you can do as i have done a few times to get out of trouble . Just screw a self tapper screw into the hole and pump the tyre back up .

Yes, a tube is an option. Have you tried Slime?

My tire guy said to use the tube as a last resort. Have the tire people put a patch on the inside. Then if you have a small leak later (somewhere else) you can still put a plug in it. With a tube, you cannot do a repair unless you have a way to break the bead down. When the tire really gets bad you can always add the tube.

Instead of a tube, lets figure how to do a plug that will hold for ya.

You say it was just a nail ?

Simple plug should take care of that, what's happening with yours ?

Every time I see something about putting a tube in a tubeless tire reminds me of the time the first new cars came out with tubeless tires. My dad owned a service station next door to a Chevrolet dealership and we put tubes in brand new tires on brand new cars because some of the buyers just were not going to trust those new-fangled tubeless tires.:D

A tube will work just fine. The only time I use a tube is when I have a slow leak that I can't find or if it won't seal around the rim.

Ok...I think I've got it. I know why the first plug didn't work....I missed the hole. DUHHH. It was a small nail and I thought it had gone in between one of those very small grooves cut in the top of one of the knobs on the tire (turff tire) So...I fooled with soap and while it would blow bubbles, I still could not tell exaclty where the hole was as some stupid idiot (um.....that would be me) pulled the board with the nail in OUT and it was impossible to see the hole. So I filled and empty trash can and imersed the tire...I was able to see the hole was actually in the side of the knob next to the one I punched a hole in...grrrr. Oh well.......I stuck the reemer in it and I am off to the store to buy some plugs. Thanks Guys! : )

If the hole gets too big for one plug I have put 6 in one hole just keep slopping them up with patch glue and push in another beside the others till you cant get one in

I got a new X748 last fall and one of the rear tires kept going flat. A leaking bead was causing the problem. Put a tube in and no more problems.
