Tubing tires on BX

/ Tubing tires on BX #31
My Kubota dealer recommended not foaming the front tires due to excessive wear. On Kubotas, I would always tube the front and foam the rears. I can handle a flat on the front. However, I would never want to mess with a loaded rear tire.

I can report that since tubing the fronts on my BX I have had zero leakage after quite a few punishing hours... prior to tubing it was a regular task to top up the air. No issues ever with the rears... no fill, no tubes, just the same factory air!

Hi all, it's time to replace my front tires on my C/Y SC2400 (18x8.5-10) and I'm trying to find tubes for that size tire. Do they make tubes for that specific size or is there a "close enough" size that would be recommended? I had them tubed after having it a year or so because one seemed to leak off all the time and it was a real pain to have to air up every time I went to use it. All was fine until one day one became leaky again so I took it apart and found the tire had been tubed with a tube bigger than the tire size. I chuckled about it thinking that was the reason the tube started to leak. I went to Tractor Supply and got a couple replacement tubes and changed them myself. Now that the tires are dry-rotted I'm having to replace them. After I located a spare tube I bought previously I discovered that I had put 18x8.5-8 tubes in. (I wondered why they were a tight fit, lol) Anyhow, when tubing these size tires what do you use. Thanks, DTS -learning something new everyday-

The guys at Schwabs where I go say that the important thing is the inside diameter of the tube. The outside will take air to the tire walls evenly if it is not too grossly over sized. In my area they stock tubes for even whee borrow and small trailer tires.

Hey good to hear from you Ron! Hope all is well? I think it was indeed you who suggested I go to Schwabs. Did one and then the other when it acted up. Great advice. Well worth it.

BX-2670, R-4's, seldom use four wheel drive, no loader, no bouncing off rocks and boulders. At 25 hours, one rear has a tube in it so far. I expect the rest will not be far behind. Never had a tubeless small tire go for long without needing a tube. In my not always so humble opinion, tubeless is quick and easy for the manufacturer, but not the best way to go with the small, slow turning, tires found on everything from hand carts to tractors.

I would not add tubes unless absolutely necessary. I think tubes are necessary on the 10" BX22/23/24/25 front wheels, due to the large number of problems reports. As mentioned, I had my BX tires filled with foam, to add weight to the BX, and to become flat-free.

A tubeless tire is so easy to repair, YOURSELF. I would not give that feature up so easily.

On my 2710, I found a nail in one of my rear tires. Pulled it out, and air came out. I plugged it using a $4.99 tire plug kit from the auto parts store. It was a non-event - in ten minutes the leak was plugged, finished, DONE. With a tubed tire it would be a big hassle, have to remove the wheel, take it to a tire repair shop.

Cant seem to find the front tubes on line. Anyone have a source?

I've found my locally owned tire store has, or can get, just about every size/type of tire or tube out there. Often for prices comparable to online.

I would slime first then if it doesn't solve the problem then tube. My local farmer friends look at me in amazement when I tell them most of the tires on my tractors are tubeless.
