You should wait till about 50 hours before changing it. I did my Deere X300 at 53 hours. You probably have a warentee so try to not scratch it up

Just keep it clean is the other good tip on making it last longer.

I didn't wail and OMG!! I am glad I did at 6.1 hours the the oil was like silver and black paint if that oil came out of my car I would fall over dead.But on the brite side I got the 5w50 Syntec in and I did it in 1 1/2 hours in all I had it on the floor in 11 min.s

Mine at 53 hours was like new, even the magnet was pretty clean.

So what you are saying is my K46 as a catastrophe failure.

Speaking of catastrophic, my Husky has 257 hrs on it and the right rear axle broke into, wheel went flying off 5 ft from the mower. I have never put any any ground attachments on this tractor, only a bagger installed by the dealer when I bought it and I have never remove it. Out of Warr, my dealer id trying "to work something out" to help me ..

All of the guidance gave me the confidence to order the parts for the K46 transmission in my JD LTR-180. Got everything out....rebuilt and put back together then.......transmission runs in REVERSE! I must have put something in backwards or upside down! Reverse pedal drives the tractor forward but at reverse speed......Forward pedal drives tractor in reverse at high speed! Any idea what part that I put in wrong? Linkages are all correctly connected.

"It may benefit some folks to know that the wedge (part #8 on the pic in the 4th post) can be installed 2 ways; the way it appears in the picture, or 180 degrees out. The resulting actions due to an incorrect install will leave you with your forward and reverse foot pedals sending you tractor in the opposite direction. Don't ask me how I know this."

After some further research of the different flavors of the K46 it appears as though a large percentage of the varieties (K46A) have part #36 of the schematics upside down as opposed to the picture in the 4th post. My error was not photographing my original configuration and just following the photo (which is for a different flavor than mine). The final issue was that I didn't know my variant as the bar-code label had fallen off the transaxle.

Well I am giving my K46 a good test .I got a new grass job it is a very steep hill so steep I had to put on a set of Hi-Run Super Lug Tire, 23 x 10.5 - 12 and a 5 gallon can full of water on the back and is still slides down the hill .
