Tundra vs. Chevy

I am similar. However, in reviewing various year model trucks for their factory rated towing ability (11k # or greater) along with any important factory options I wanted, it came down to 2008 or newer 3/4 ton gas with 6L+ engine and 4.x gears and 4WD. Or diesel. Or a 2015 HD 1/2 ton Ford Ecoboost or GM 1500 5.3L, both with max towing and max payloads and 4WD.

I am still contemplating and trying to figure out which option is the best bang for my buck. It is complicated by these large towing needs will only be rare and good used 3/4 tons in my year range are still relatively expensive.

I buy new only because the used market around here is way overpriced. The savings just aren't there. Also my county values used trucks very weird, say you paid $17,000 for a truck but they value it at $21,000. Guess which figure you're going to pay tax on even if you show them the paper with what you paid on it? Just not worth it. Many used trucks around here with 90,000+ miles on them are only about $10k cheaper than a brand new one when you figure in all the rebates and haggling. I'll buy used tractors and atv's and such all day long but not a used truck. Just not financially sensible for me in my area.

Same here. Anything 4x4 that is still roadworthy is $10K and up, but they're rusty and high mileage.

+1 around here also and the reason I am seriously considering purchasing new. And they expect to get new 2015 pricing on a used 2014. Really crazy. At a particular Chevrolet dealer's lot I happen to drive by on a regular basis and one I stopped in at recenty and spent some time with a sales person and a couple HD 1/2 ton trucks, their new trucks are leaving the lot weekly. It seems 1/2 and 3/4 ton alike are selling quickly. I have searched within 100 miles of my area for 6 months and the bang-for-the -buck in a good used, "newer" type truck is not there for me. I also found the same thing in tractors and quality implements and purchased those new with no regrets.

There's a used car lot down from my house that has a 2014 Z71 Silverado crew cab LT with 6,000 miles on it. It's equipped exactly like my truck (also a 2014). They're asking $45000!!! You can buy that same truck brand new for a sticker of $47,000 and then you subtract rebates. Absolutely ridiculous they price a used truck like that and I bet they'd be offended if you explained to them how overpriced it was. Yeah, I'll stick to buying new.

Yeah but at the used lot they have lower payments - $1,000 down and $100 a week for 20 years no credit check required!

When I bought my 2014 Tundra, I was actually looking for a Taco.

The new one I was looking at was stickered at 29,995.

The dealer wouldn't budge from 28,995.

I told him, too much money. He told me he had a 2010 with 30k on it and brought it over for me too look at. It stunk from cigarettes, but was a nice looking truck.

The price?............. 27,995. $1k less than a brand new one, no new warrentee....30k miles and stinky besides.

I went to another dealer who worked with me on the Tundra.

BTW, I just replaced the broken mirror on my Tundra.....$345 for the mirror and I did the work.
