We have a fan driven exhaust system for running diesel engines in our facility. The 5" exhaust inlet hose measures 7000fpm or 79.5mph (not adjustable so ya git watcha git) This connected to a 9 liter detroit exhaust stack reads about 150rpm on the turbo with a strobe. The intake pipe is not connected so any air filter restriction is not present.
So I guess the turbo does spin but probably not fast enough to damage a turbo on short distance trips. I would definitely tape the pipe if they are predicting rain or in dusty or dirty locations.
