turbocharging a Kubota B7100

In Europe, Smarts are mostly diesel. Although the newer ones are just fitted with gas engines.

My query is just theoretical. I have no need for a larger tractor nor do I intend to turbo the B7100 I have.I was just wondering if it can be done. Thanks for the answers

"can" depending on your skills or $$ or both. Besides making intake and exhaust connections, oil supply and drain, and water cooling if the turbo has it, you'll also need additional cooling capacity as pointed out above. The B7100 has a thermosiphon system with no pump. That has limits and may not support the added heat generated. The fuel pump will need to pump more fuel to make more power. You'll have to modify it or the injectors or both. On some pumps there's an external adjustment for max fuel rate and if the injectors can support that you can get more fuel that way.

Adding a turbo to a light tractor like a B7100 won't help with traction.

I installed a turbo on my 1720 Ford because I wanted more power but not a new bigger tractor.
Best mod ever, no issues with lots of power when needed.
Used a turbo off s Saab Garrett GT1752 if my memory serves me correct.
Not a expensive mod for me but time consuming planning and implementing.
There are photos in the review section.

Same here best mod EVER! I think if you look at Toro products that use a small Kubota Diesel you'll find a turbo that will work.

Mine out of pocket cost me just under $1000 for everything not including any labor. I used a brand new turbo IHI brand name not a Chinese Ebay model.

Tell the naysayers to be quiet unless they have experience themselves. You'll find many small Diesels can be turbocharged without adding cooling capacity or an external cooler, piston cooling jets, etc. What you'll also see is that your machine will run fine because you aren't utilizing max power all of the time.

Forced induction needs more fuel, crank the pump and enjoy an adult beverage as you till your garden with an 8 foot tiller :drink:

Bigger injectors are not needed and additional fuel is an external adjustment on most types.
Those little screws with the wire through them are where you make fuel & rpm adjustments.

Kubota diesels: smallest factory fit seems to be 1.8L.

I thought you致e had all kinds of problems since? My recollection is you complain about your Kubota incessantly, but have a note so you couldn稚 get rid of it?

I'd be trying to find out what is wrong with the tractor instead of throwing a turbo on it. Most of the time a turbo engine will have different pistons and oil jets to cool the pistons. If your tractor is "gutless" either it ain't right or you are asking too much of the unit. My little 2710HST amazes me at the way it will pull for such a small tractor.

No problems EVER with turbo install or operation of engine thereafter, no overheating, no excessive oil usage, the power is excellent now. It does use more fuel which is to be expected.

Regards, Fred

I still HATE my tractor 10-4. Three more payments and decision time.

Smallest Kubota factory engine I've seen was a D722 so .7L approx.

I have a factory turbo for a D1105 that I'm putting on my B2620 (which uses a D1105).

Never understood why people always refer to traction when it comes to adding power, I'm doing it for more PTO power and the superior power delivery of forced induction on a diesel.

Whats to decide? You have made literally hundreds of posts about how terrible it is.

So you hate it that much, but you might keep it? :confused2:

Parts are priced CRAZY high, paint is fading horribly for a 2012 model. I don't dare leave it in the sunshine because of this. R4s SUCK in the snow/ice. With chains it works fine. Engine won't start very well in the cold compared to other Diesel equipment I have.

The engine still does not start well and I MUST check the glow plugs with the scope to see if they are drawing current. Last weekend I left the machine at a friend's place and in the morning it was 34 degrees and by the time I went to start the engine it was 52 out yet the motor wouldn't start. Wife left me stranded there as she didn't realize this, it took me a half hour of fooling to get her going.

The tractor ergonomically stinks, the loader controls are twitchy and fast compared to other equipment I have. I can open a beer can with the excavator yet smash the house down with the FEL on the tractor, go figure.
